[U-Boot] Setting up MAC address for eth drivers

Hi, I have a question regarding setting mac address for drivers. Drivers setting up write_hwaddr via eth_write_hwaddr via eth_initialize which is called from common/board_r.c. But then there are some drivers(macb, designware, altera_tse) which also calls mac setup from dev->init which has side effect for example when you setup CONFIG_ENV_OVERWRITE and change mac address you can directly use it. It also means if there is intention to call hwaddr from dev->init that for the first packet mac address is setup twice - in eth core init and then before every driver use. I am asking this question because I would like to know the right flow for eth mac setup. If it is set ethaddr xx.... saveenv reset eth with new mac or if set ethaddr eth with new mac should work The second approach looks reasonable when ethaddr is not set at all but then at least our driver needs to be fixed to support this feature. This series adds driver model support to USB. The intent is to permit the various subsystems (OHCI, EHCI, XHCI) to co-exist and allow any number of USB ports of different types. With the RFC series, only USB controllers had a real driver model device. USB devices (including the hub in the controller) were not modelled as driver model devices. While this was expedient, and produced much fewer patches, it is not a long-term solution. Also, since then, driver model Ethernet support (which USB can use) has been merged to u-boot-dm/next. It seems better to bite the bullet and do a full conversion. Unfortunately this results in a very large series. It includes: - USB uclass - USB hub uclass - Adjustments to make USB keyboard, Ethernet and storage continue to work - Sandbox USB emulation support - Sandbox USB emulations for flash and hub devices - A reasonable set of tests - EHCI and XHCI support (not OHCI) - Conversion of Tegra and Exynos drivers to driver model - Adjustments to make the 'usb' command operate as expected - README describing how USB works with driver model Both EHCI and XHCI needed a little bit of refactoring before they are converted to driver model - e.g. removal of weak fuctions and splitting up the init code. This series includes patches to remove the non-driver-model code for Exynos and Tegra, to be applied once everything is stable. For now it is convenient to be able to compare the two options. This series does not change how USB is started up. The 'usb start' command scans the buses as before, and takes just as long. Once it has started you can use 'dm tree' to see the tree structure of the USB bus, although 'usb tree' provides a better view. It is unclear how we could implement lazy init for USB given the long time it takes to probe the bus. A README is provided to describe how USB works under driver model. [U-Boot] [PATCH v2 0/22] x86: Add bare support for Intel Minnowboard Max

This series adds support for the Intel Minnowboard Max (called Minnowmax for short). Along the way a few refactors and additions are made: - The Intel Firmware Support Package support is moved from queensbay to a common location - PCI support for XHCI is added - A few tweaks are made to the PCI support - Support for the debug UART (early debug output) is provided - The microcode tool now also supports reading in header files This board has been lightly tested. The following seem to work: - USB2 on the blue port (not USB3), e.g. for keyboard - Ethernet - HDMI out and console - UART - uSD card - SPI SATA is detected but I have not attached a drive to try it. USB3 shows signs of life but does not detect a USB stick, and crashes when trying to use a USB Ethernet adaptor. For SPI some parts cannot be read and others cannot be written. This seems to be a feature of the Intel hardware configuration. It may be possible to fix this using the SPI registers but I cannot work out how / lost interest trying. So far, addresses from 500000 to 700000 can be used. I have not tried the ICH GPIO driver but it likely needs work before it will function. I2C is not supported as there is currently no U-Boot driver for this. The zboot command can be used to start a bzImage kernel. Verified boot is supported - use mkimage to sign images as described in this walk-through: doc/uImage.FIT/beaglebone_vboot.txt Boot time is grim: - 1423ms to set up display (Intel FSP) - 454ms to scan AHCI (when no devices are connected) - ~1000ms to power up and start cache-as-RAM init (Intel FSP) (this is not benchmarked, may be inaccurate) - ~950ms to set up memory and initial machine configuration (Intel FSP) (this is not benchmarked, may be inaccurate) So it takes over 4 seconds to get to booting a kernel. Implementing the Memory Reference Code (MRC) cache should improve this slightly (perhaps a reduction of 500-1000ms). This cache is implemented for ivybridge so that code needs to be moved into a generic x86 directory and plumbed into the FSP code. This has not been done in this series. Also the video and SATA/AHCI can be disabled if preferred. It is also possible to run as a coreboot payload. See the instructions in README.x86 for this. In this case video does not work since coreboot does not pass through the VESA display information. To support the single-core 1GB variant, changes would need to be made to arch/x86/cpu/baytrail/fsp_configs.c to select different values for the memory. The microcode update may need to change also. This series is available at u-boot-x86 branch minnow-working. Maybe them could be replace with something like *_V8 later. This tool can move CONFIG macros from C headers (include/configs/*.h) to defconfigs (configs/*_defconfig) all over the boards. There are tons of CONFIGs in U-boot and moving them by hand is absolutely tool painful. I wrote this script for my local use, so this patch might not clean enough to be applied to the code base. It might contain some bugs. Please do not apply this patch! This patch is here because Simon requested me to share it. See the discussion in here: http://lists.denx.de/pipermail/u-boot/2015-January/201556.html Usage: [1] Please run "git status" and make sure your git repository is clean. [2] Describe the CONFIG option you want move in the file "~/.moveconfig" Say, you want to move CONFIG_CMD_NAND, for example. In this case, the content of "~/.moveconfig" should be like this: $ cat .moveconfig CONFIG_CMD_NAND bool n y - The first field is the name of the CONFIG. - The second field is the type of the CONFIG such as "bool", "int", "hex", etc. - The third value is the default value. The value that is same as the default is omitted in each defconfig. If the type of the CONFIG is bool, the default value must be either 'y' or 'n'. - The forth field shows whether the CONFIG depends on CONFIG_SPL_BUILD. Hi Ian, ChenYu, I'm very happy to present this patch series which adds initial A80 support, with this series a u-boot.bin can be build which can then be fel booted using Allwinners boot0 fel binary, and then can load linux from a sdcard using a standard extlinux.conf setup. Next step getting RSB going and finding out how the 2 pmics are hooked up, and then slowly work towards getting SPL going. Ian, as always, can you please review these patches ? From: Fabio Estevam <fabio.estevam(a)freescale.com> Having bit 22 cleared in the PL310 Auxiliary Control register (shared attribute override enable) has the side effect of transforming Normal Shared Non-cacheable reads into Cacheable no-allocate reads. Coherent DMA buffers in Linux always have a Cacheable alias via the kernel linear mapping and the processor can speculatively load cache lines into the PL310 controller. With bit 22 cleared, Non-cacheable reads would unexpectedly hit such cache lines leading to buffer corruption. This was inspired by a patch from Catalin Marinas [1] and also from recent discussions in the linux-arm-kernel list [2] where Russell King and Rob Herring suggested that bootloaders should initialize the cache.
