This debug_prints strategy provides-
A. pre-formatted debug and print macros to be used in a code
B. flexiblility to enable selective debug prints without
modifying a source code

+1.1 Debugging Strategy
+======================
+This debug strategy provides predefined macros to be used in code
+
+DEBUGGING LEVELS
+0 To disable all debug messages
+1 To enable normal debug macro- debug_print
+2 To enable flow trace debug macro- debug_print_ftrace
+4 To enable interrupt and timer debug macroc- debug_print4
+8 To enable any special debug messages defined by macro- debug_print8
+
+1.2 How to use Debugging strategy in a code ?
+=============================================
+
+1. make sure #include <debug_prints.h> line present in c code
+2. define following lines at the top in your code
+ #ifndef <DBG_FLAG_NAME>
+ #define <DBG_FLAG_NAME> 0
+ #endif
+ #define DEBUG_PRINT <DBG_FLAG_NAME>
+ DBG_FLAG_NAME is an identification that is used during build to enable
+ debug prints
+3. define DEBUG_PFX to a small string to identify debug message in a code
+ This is an optional setting, if you don't define DEBUG_PFX,
+ by default "dbg: " will be used.
+4. use the debug_print, debug_ftrace, debug_print4, debug_print8 macros
+ in a code wjere ever required
+
+1.3 How to activate debug messages?
+====================================
+
+Debug messages can be activated during build time by passing desired
+debug level
+
+1. Enabling Debug messages by passing additional parameter to make
+ This is a recommended method of debug messages implimentation.
+ this method give flexibility to enable/disable debug messages
+ during build without modifying code
+ Additional command line parameters:-
+ (a) To enable debug_print messages:-
+ DEBUG_PRINTS=<DBG_FLAG_NAME>
+ (b) To enable debug_print_ftrace function:-
+ DEBUG_PRINTS=<DBG_FLAG_NAME>=2
+ (c) To enable debug_print4 messages:-
+ DEBUG_PRINTS=<DBG_FLAG_NAME>=4
+ (d) To enable debug_print8 messages:-
+ DEBUG_PRINTS=<DBG_FLAG_NAME>=8
+ (e) you can enable selective debug prints.
+ for ex. if you want to enable debug_print and debug_print4 messages
+ then you can pass ORed debug level value (i.e. 1 for debug_print and
+ 4 for debug_print4 (1 | 4 = 5)
+ DEBUG_PRINTS=<DBG_FLAG_NAME>=5
+ (f) if you want to enable debug_print defined in more than one c files
+ then you can pass additional debug flag names as
+ DEBUG_PRINTS="<DBG_FLAG_NAME1>=1 <DBG_FLAG_NAME2>=2
+ the above parameters will enable debug_print messages in a code where
+ <DBG_FLAG_NAME1> is defined and will enable debug_print_ftrace functions
+ in a code where <DBG_FLAG_NAME2> is defined
+
+2. Enabling Debug messages by hardcoding in source file
+ This is simplest implimentation, just define DEBUG_PRINT to
+ desired debug level and compile the code, the disadvantage of this
+ method is, it does not offer flexibility and code with debug message
+ may become part of your release if not taken care properly.

[U-Boot] [PATCH 0/2][Net][ppc4xx] Remove non-CONFIG_NET_MULTI option for PPC4xx EMAC
by Ben Warren 26 May '09
by Ben Warren 26 May '09
26 May '09
Hello,
This patch set switches all remaining PPC4xx boards to use CONFIG_NET_MULTI.
I haven't been able to test any of the boards, but MAKEALL 4xx ran OK. I
remember that some of the 4xx linker scripts specified 'ppc_4xx_eth_initialize',
so maybe that's necessary in some cases?
regards,
Ben

Hi,
It seems that UBoot needs two data structures to display a bitmap in the
framebuffer. Is there a utility that converts a Windows bitmap (BMP?) file
and creates the 2 data structures that I can embedd in my code?
Thanks,
Steve

[U-Boot] Which U-Boot releases have Device Tree support
by cmfairfaï¼ rockwellcollins.com 21 May '09
by cmfairfaï¼ rockwellcollins.com 21 May '09

We bought a MPC8360E-RDK development kit to develop applications under
MontaVista CGE5.0. We were toldby the consultant whose doing our board LSP
that the U-Boot version that came with the development kit did not have
device tree support. The consultant upgraded the U-Boot to a version that
has device tree support, but he says he doesn't have the source code for
the U-Boot version. I need the source to make certain updates.
Which U-Boot version can I download that has device tree support?
Thanks.

Hi all!
I have one doubt. How can I add a new command to U-Boot?
Do I have to use only the macro U_BOOT_CMD() like files .../common/cmd_* or do I have to do more things, like defines, etc.?
And after this is compliled with no error, if I type help in U-Boot's shell, do I see this command like the others?
Best regards,
Carlos Silva

Is there support in the 2009.03 version of U-boot to allow writing a
YAFFS image created by mkyaffs2image to NAND, including the meta-data in
the OOB?
Looking over the nand write/read commands, they look to ignore the OOB
data interleaved in the image (i.e. 2048+16 bytes per page for
large-block NAND). I did see a patch from fmandarino on the list, but
that doesn't look to be in the 2009.03 codebase.
Thanks in advance!

This patch adds, under tools folder, a new command called imls. Its
goal is the same of UBoot's imls but it can be used as Linux shell
command. It reads from raw mtd partition and prints the list of the
stored images.

+IMLS
+-------------
+
+imls is an implementation of a Linux command line tool to access
+to raw flash partitions and list images made with mkimage command.
+
+For building against older versions of the MTD headers (meaning before
+v2.6.8-rc1) it is required to pass the argument "MTD_VERSION=old" to
+make.

Currently the mtdparts commands are included in the jffs2 command support.
This doesn't make sense anymore since other commands (e.g. UBI) use this
infrastructure as well now. This patch separates the mtdparts commands from
the jffs2 commands making it possible to only select mtdparts when no JFFS2
support is needed.

Signed-off-by: Kyungmin Park <kyungmin.park(a)samsung.com>
---
v4:
- Keep config_cmd_all.h sorted
- Add "mtd_" to the names of some now non-static functions
- Cleanup of "jffs2" names and comments in cmd_mtdparts.c
v3:
- Keep lists sorted (README, Makefile) as pointed out by Wolfgang
- Generated without find-copies-harder
v2:
This patch is based in the original version by Kyungmin Park with some
additional changes by Jean-Christophe Plagniol-Villard. Changes are
the patch description and removal of the compilation errors/warnings.
