Hi I am using u-boot 1.0.0, and am loading linux kernel at 400000, it appears to hang after printing message - "Warning: real time clock seems stuck!" My linux kernel version is 2.4.18 I have put additional kprint in main.c and am able to track it down to between the lines . . . kmem_cache_init(); sti(); . . I have tried to set clocks_in_mhz to 1 through the setenv command and it did not help. [U-Boot-Users] BDI/flash question

After spending the time (and money) on getting the BDI2000 and u-boot working on the DBAU1500 board, our hardware guys finally delivered me a couple of our own design boards with Au1500 processors on them. I connected the BDI2000 to one of our boards, and when it wouldn't erase the flash and after a call to the HW engineer, found out that it has a different flash. OK, changed the flash type to the correct one, and also the bus width was changed to 16 as opposed to the 32 on the DBAU1500. The BDI will now erase and program the flash, but u-boot won't come up. After a bit of digging I found that after an erase the flash looks like this: BDI>md 0xbfc00000 bfc00000 : 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff ................ bfc00010 : 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff ................ bfc00020 : 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff ................ bfc00030 : 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff 0000ffff ................ and on, and on..... Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? Our HW guy is pouring over the schematics trying to find something, but I want to make sure it isn't something stupid I did on the BDI2000 config. [U-Boot-Users] RTC for MPC5200

Good morning. I have a couple of questions. After struggling with an initrd boot for a few days, I said "heck with it" and just made /dev/hda2 my root device. Given that the kernel is in flash, and the devices I need are compiled in (and I don't have module support), is there any reason to mess around with an initrd-style boot, given that we absolutely know what the hardware config is going to be? It works like a charm with the default DENX Sys-V init, from the ppc-82xx tree, by the way, though I will have to prune some services. The other question regards the real time clock on the MPC5200. Unless I am seriously overlooking something, this does not appear to be implemented, yet, yes? The register structure doesn't look too arcane. Is anybody working on this? I am tempted, but nobody wants to roll in code from a rank novice. The project we're working on needs a self-contained clock. I notice that u-boot provides rtc services, but isn't that more properly a kernel function? I'm a little fuzzy on the dividing line. Thanks! Victor Wren

[U-Boot-Users] [slightly offtopic] IDE interface for MPC823?

I apologize in advance. I know this is slightly offtopic here, but I think this mailing list is the closest I could get to finding someone who can answer this: I'm looking for a schematic drawing showing how to build an IDE interface for the MPC823. I have an existing board I want to hack an IDE interface to. I've been seaqrching the net for boards that contains an MPC823 with an IDE interface, but I couldn't come up with either an appnote, or an existing schematic. (I found a block diagram of the terrapin mine, but it wasn't a full schematic, and anyhow the IDE interface is implemented there using an FPGA). I understand I must buffer the data bus (what type of 74xxx245 can I use? HC? HCT? something else? IIRC the IDE bus works on +5V, while the MPC823 works on 3.3V. The PIO part seems relatively easy (I either sacrifice 2 chip selects or generate them from 1 CS using discrete gates I guess). What about DMA? thanks, Udi

There happens to 4 28F128J3A[C]s in 4x8 mode on my custom board.But I haven't ported u-boot successfully for hang after code relocation.I used flash driver from lwmon board created by Wolfgang.So I don't know whether I am able to work with you to test the patch on my custom board.At least,I am willing to do this.Perhaps,my problem has sth to do with it. BTW,pls send a reference copy to me for I cannot get it from U-BOOT digist. Hi, This is a little bit out of topic in the list. So please forgive me first. There are many ppl in the list developing MPC8245 board. Anyone is willing to share your BDI2000 configuration file. There may be some proprietary information on it. But I believe there is some common one someone else could make use of it. BTW, which cpu should I select for MPC8245? Hello: Another newbie question, I'm afraid ... What I am trying to do is run another copy of U-Boot from SRAM, i.e. treating U-Boot #2 as a standalone application to be loaded by U-Boot #1. This way I don't have to overwrite the boot code stored in the flash. Now, U-Boot is power-on-reset code as well as C code, and the CPU has already *been* initialized, so not all of the code needs to be re-run. I am wondering what is the most straightforward way to modify the early code for running from SRAM. The board I'm using (PPChameleonEVB) has 1 MB SRAM at 0xff800000. I've modified the .lds file and the flash base in include/configs so that "flash" is now taken to be the SRAM. (I know this is quick and dirty, not elegant. Also I know that the PPChameleonEVB has a jumper which swaps CS0# [flash] and CS1# [SRAM], but I don't have a BDI so I'm not able to load the SRAM.) Then I make an image file with mkimage file, address 0xff800000 and entry point 0xff800100, TFTP it to the board and execute it. People have successfully run out of RAM, but doing that is discouraged since you have to have as much or more very low level knowledge as running out of flash. Portions of the re-init are Bad, Real Bad to run twice. RAM init is the obvious one, and there may be more. Bullet #1 won't work (which you proved once more). As you pointed out in your second bullet, hacking up the init code is a multiple day project. In the same amount of time, you should be up and running out of flash, so why bother (paraphrasing Wolfgang here :-). If you wish to run out of RAM you are welcome to do so, but about all the advice you will get is "don't do that." gvb P.S. Don't do that.
