If I'm not wrong, the 2.4 MTD driver and the 2.6 MTD driver is slightly different. In fact in 2.4 you have /dev/mtd0 and /dev/mtdblock0 representing the whole flash. In 2.6 /dev/mtd0 and /dev/mtdblock0 represent the first partition. So maybe you can try with root=/dev/mtdblock3. No hints regarding the console issue. hello folks, we are using an atmel at91rm9200-dk based custom board with 4mb of dataflash. i stored the kernel image inside of an jffs2-partition on the dataflash. to load the kernel i am trying to read the image out of the jffs2-partition on dataflash. i get the following error when typing "fsinfo": <log> no such FLASH device: nor0 (valid range 0 ... -1 incorrect device: nor0 </log> my settings in modified at91rm9200dk.h-file are: #undef CONFIG_JFFS2_CMDLINE #define CONFIG_JFFS2_DEV "nor0" #define CONFIG_JFFS2_PART_SIZE 0x3f6fbf #define CONFIG_JFFS2_PART_OFFSET 0xc0029040 all other configs that use jffs-read-functionality don't have any dataflash, so is this possible generally?! regards andre

[U-Boot-Users] Dynamic location of the environment sector

I have a board that comes in three flash confirurations: - 32MB - 64MB - 128MB The cfi code can safely detect the flash sizes, banks and widths at boot time. I have however the problem that the flash chips are "top" type and the small sectors are at the end of the address space. So I want to make the last sector (a small sector) to contain the environment. The last sector though is in a different address (and has a different size) depending on the flash configuration. Currently the defines for the environment expect raw numerical values. Is there an infrastructure somewhere to define the flash size at runtime? I tried to print the flash sizes in the board specific codes, for instance: extern flash_info_t flash_info[]; printf("flash 0 : %d %x\n", flash_info[0].size, flash_info[0].start[flash_info[0].sector_count-1]); ... prints: Flash: 64 MB In: serial Out: serial Err: serial flash 0 : 67108864 3ff0000 (the second number is the address of the last sector) And all sizes are detected correctly. I want to use these values to calculate the location of the environment dynamically at runtime. This way I can have a single u-boot image for all flash configurations! -- Angelos Manousaridis

I have a root file system that I boot over NFS (x86 host, PPC target). How do I transform that into a root file system of the form rootfs.ext2.gz.uboot so I can load that into flash? Happy to RTFM if someone can point me to it. And yes, I confess, I'm a newbie to this. :) Cheers and Thanks! GS

Hello; I have a two problems for edb9302 development boards u-boot patch. have you got a any idea? 1) I downloaded and patched "u-boot_edb93xx-20060405.patch". But when I run u-boot on 9302 dev board, I build it with ELDK ARM 4.0. I don't see anything on hiper terminal window(115200-8-N-1). it doesn't work properly on edb9302! which toolchain version I must use? 2) I patched u-boot "edb93xx-20060405" and build u-boot with ELDK ARM 4.0. I am trying to debug U-Boot using the WIGGLER + cygwin/ocdremote and gdb. When I enter "c" for continue, I get "Program received signal SIGSTOP, Stopped (signal)." (see below) and It doesnt stop my breakpoints. Does you know what causes this? P.S.: I tryed with edb9325 and I'm getting same problems. edb9315 doesn't pass start.s copy_loop: function. thanks Gokhan

Hello: When implement bootm command, u-boot will start linux kernel, and pass the parameters with r3, r4, r5, r6 and r7 like this. /* * Linux Kernel Parameters: * r3: ptr to board info data * r4: initrd_start or 0 if no initrd * r5: initrd_end - unused if r4 is 0 * r6: Start of command line string * r7: End of command line string */ (*kernel) (kbd, initrd_start, initrd_end, cmd_start, cmd_end); But linux kernel boot information shows that the Kernel command line was empty, what may cause the problem.
