Yes, I did try it out. Seems the u-boot works fine and the example application runs fine in SDRAM. But when I tried to load the kernel, kernel hangs when early_init (in head_4xx.S) is called. So I want to come back to u-boot and double check everything in u-boot is correct. BTW, does anyone happen to have early_init problem and solved it? I saw a lot of discussions on the internet. But most of them didn't give a final solution. It doesn't matter if we are using same board or CPU. I just want to get some idea of what could be wrong. Any input would be appreciated! Hi, I am working on my walnut board with PPC405GP. The Flash starts at FFE00000. I need to reserve the first 512KB of Flash for other application. So the U-Boot is installed at FFE80000. I set the config parameter as below: In WALNUT405.h CFG_FLASH_BASE = FFE00000 CFG_MONITOR_BASE = FFE80000 In board/walnut405/config.mk TEXT_BASE = FFE80000 Are these all what I need to change? Did I miss anything? Frank, I think you power off and then immediately (in a few seconds) power on the board. If you stay a while after you power off the board, the content of SDRAM should be lost. The reason is that sdram keeps the contents for a while without refresh. Hope this helps. One interesting thing I found is, I used mm to change the first 4 bytes at address 0, which is suppose to belong to SDRAM, to 0xdeaddead. Then I turned off the power. After I turned on the power, I used md to check the memory. The content at address 0 was still 0xdeaddead. I changed the value several times and found once I modified the SDRAM, the content stays regardless the power is off. This is very weird. Should the content be lost once the power is off? Can anybody explain how it happened? BTW, after I turn off the board I waited for long enough (1-2 minutes) to turn it on. Thanks, Frank

Hi all. I need a standalone application to run on vxworks boot loader , on sbc8260. I tried to run u-boot example , hello_world , but it makes an exception , when tries to access a logical address.(MSR says i have supervisior privilege, so this is not because of instruction needed privilege) I think this is due to lack of logical addresses provided by vxworks boot loader, as hello_world is configured to use logical addresses provided by u-boot. can anyone help me?am i right? can i run any standalone application on it? I have configured u-boot , ( sbc8260.c(/board) and sbc8260.h(/include/configs )and compiled it.I am not an expert. also vxworks bootloader can not run u-boot elf.why this happens? thanks. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Is there a (good) reason why the mem_alloc_init for ARM (and some other) targets zeroes out the malloc pool? from ./lib_arm/board.c: static void mem_malloc_init (ulong dest_addr) { mem_malloc_start = dest_addr; mem_malloc_end = dest_addr + CFG_MALLOC_LEN; mem_malloc_brk = mem_malloc_start; memset ((void *) mem_malloc_start, 0, mem_malloc_end - mem_malloc_start); This seems very redundant to me. [U-Boot-Users] uboot support for USB DFU protocol

I am using the AT91RM9200DK, it has both USB host and device interfaces. Can I use the USB *device* port to load a binary image (uImage) into my development board? i.e. does u-boot support the USB DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) protocol? I know that the AT91RM9200 has support for USB DFU in its internal boot ROM, but I'd like to use uboot to load the image via image from a file server - similar to the way I would do it with tftp. If I make a product that has a USB device interface, I'd like to be able to upgrade the firmware via that same USB link. Aras

[U-Boot-Users] Unaligned Flash Writing with drivers/cfi_flash.c

In the CFI flash driver (drivers/cfi_flash.c), is it intended that the writes to the buffer in function flash_write_cfibuffer using the instructions such as "*dst.wp++ = *src.wp++;" work on unaligned addresses, i.e. 0x01 for source and 0x02 for destination? I find that, as should be expected, memory copy operations don't like working with unaligned addresses. However, when using the cfi_flash.c driver with buffered writes disabled, unaligned addresses aren't a problem. I see three options: --A user just knows not to perform operations that copy from bad addresses. --The driver copes with weird requests (and the code grows larger in size). --An error message pops out saying that the addresses don't align (and the code grows larger in size). Right now, I observe that my OMAP1510 Innovator board just crashes or resets. The less knowledgable user might like to know why that happens. [U-Boot-Users] ppc440gx issue

Possibly off topic here, please bear with me... I have custom HW, ppc 440gx, with a xilinx system ace connected on chip select 2. I can read/write the sysace internal reg's w/o problem. However, when I attempt to read a sector of the compact flash connected to the sysace, I only get the first 16 bits from the fifo. Does anyone on the list know of any issues with the 4xx series and chip select 2? (Yes, I have checked the errata, nothing there). I thought I saw something fly by either here or on linuxppc-embedded, but I wasn't sure where, and a archive search brings up nothing for me. On another note, the HW engineers here are quite impressed with the capabilities of u-boot (they were skeptics at first, as they wanted to use PIBS (on custom hw even)). Kudos to Wolfgang, and the multitude of developers here! Thanx for any light you can shed on my situation, Travis

[U-Boot-Users] Preliminary patch for Cogent CBS336 (MC9328MXL-based)

Starting from Bryan Larsen's patch for U-Boot 0.4.0, I started porting U-Boot 1.1.2 on Cogent CSB336. The patch against current CVS is available for download here http://www.dave-tech.it/download/misc/up-csb336-1 (I could not attach because the size limit). Some clean ups are needed here and there. I had to change the routine reset_timer_masked in cpu/mc9328/interrupts.c (bug?). To initialize clocks and SDRAM controller I used the same values used by the Micromonitor bootloader the board comes with. I also had to avoid invoking funtion SetAsynchMode() otherwise the processor hangs. U-Boot seems to be stable but I could not load Linux kernel so far. I'm trying to start a modified version of the kernel 0.3.8 delivered by Motorola for the M9328MXL ADS. It seems the kernel does not like the parameters passed by U-Boot. Still working on it.
