It is not needed at all. The μSD card reader of the GuruPlug is viewed as an USB device.
A patch had already been commit to support the μSD of the GuruPlug by Ludovic Courtès
I have done a quick test of the current uBoot : a 1G microSD is correctly detected in a GuruPlug Server Plus.

Guruplug and Sheevaplug are two different boards with h/w diffs, We have introduced mv-common.h for this,
There are some early sheevaplug versions (without wifi), this patch may help for it.
