[U-Boot-Users] [PATCH] (ARM-specific) Allow use of arm-linux-gcc built with NWFPE emulation to compile U-Boot

Author: Ulf Samuelsson Date: 2007-03-27
Description:
Change "-msoftfloat" to $(SOFTFLOAT) for arm920t arm926ejs
This allows an arm toolchain using floating point emulation for these cores to build u-boot. When -msoftfloat is present as a flag to arm-linux-gcc, the build fails.
The default operation is to keep -msoftfloat but if CONFIG_NOSOFTFLOAT is defined as an environment variable in the shell, the -msoftfloat is removed during the build
Example: $ export CONFIG_NOSOFTFLOAT=y $ make <board>_config $ make

Thanks for your patch. It will be useful for others, with the same problem, to see your post.
However, I shall not be submitting it for inclusion in the main U-Boot tree.
The compiler warning indicates a toolchain problem, rather than a problem in the U-Boot code.
The latest ELDK arm-linux-gcc does not exhibit this behaviour.
Since U-Boot contains no floating point code, I intend to remove this option from all
ARM board builds, as soon as possible.
" <---- snip -----> .....I consider the use of FP code in U-Boot a bug. <---- snip -----> WD 2007-03-26"
I would be interested to hear from users of other architectures
why this flag is required for their builds.....
