I guess that new code only adds ifdefs for DDR4 which should not be enabled nor compiled for existing boards. This should be safe.
Best would be, if we could make sure that this patch does not change anything for non-DDR4 platforms. And if, then we should extract this into a separate patch for the DDR3 stuff, that can be more easily reviewed.
