I'm not sure if such a low value is a good idea. There are a few boards out there that use USB serial adapters for console, which are board powered (vs. bus powered). That means they start registering with a host only when the board powers up. With a 2 second timeout it is usually impossible to break into the interactive mode, as you cannot connect fast enough to the /dev/ttyUSB*. Just my $0.02
