./u-boot -T -lshows the graphical console for sandbox_defconfig.
Please, provide more detail on how to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu Hirsute.
I am really not sure. I noticed the problem a while back but have never been able to figure out why it happens or what is going on. I am pleased it does not happen for you. I'll try it on a later Ubuntu at some point, but I'm assuming people will continue to use 20.04 for a while.
