Perhaps the baud rate on the console is changing at that transition?  I've seen that particular "mysterious failure mode" once.

Subject: [U-Boot-Users] Console Problems on MPC8280 based A&M Rattler board

Hi,

We are trying to port linux 2.4.20 for the mpc8280 Rattler board.

Kernel boot seems to stop after printing "Now booting the kernel".

But from the log buffer(Starting at 0x194654) dump it looks like it is

well crossing this stage.

The last message that was dumped in the log buffer is:

The boot loader used is u-boot.

Any pointers to why messages after "Now booting the kernel" are not

getting on to the console ?.Thanks for your time.
