The place to start is to clone the git repository and read the README file. There is also a doc/ subdirectory with a bunch more README files.

Also read the code, that is the final authority.

When you have specific questions, ask the list. The more specific, the better. The quality and speed of the answer is pretty closely related to the specificness of the question.
