Sure, no problem.
The idea is to keep testing SPL and u-boot.img like you currently do and add an extra boot test that also tests u-boot-with-spl.imx.
This would allows to catch regressions with the u-boot-with-spl.imx format too.
Ah, okay, yes this should be doable also ...
