I think this is VERY BAD advise.
Of course you ALWAYS want ot have your firewall running if you need one (and then you must take care to configure it correctly); otherwise you should just permanently disable / unconfigure / uninstall it.
Just disabling the firewall to get something doen whichis otherwise impossible because of problems you don;t understand is just what the crackers are waiting for. Be aware.
NEVER disable a firewall if you need one. Not for 5 seconds.
