Simon,
Please let me know what you really had to do to get the flash programmed.
It would be interesting to describe what you might have changed or had not been doing if it is generally something that users would forget porting to a new board.
If it is not concerned with U-BOOT could you mail me separately?
Thanks,
Krishnan

Hi,
We have encountered on some of our 405EP boards that when powered on nothing happens - U-boot doesn't start. Powering off and trying again it "suddenly" works...
When caught in this "not-booting-state", it doesn't even help to activate the reset-pin. However, in the attached serial console, some giberish characters do come out (5-10 chars.).
Now, having seen problems with the memory chips on some of my boards, I was wondering if this could be a similar problem?
Best regards, Martin Egholm

I agree that they shall be correct.
There is no attempt or intention to make them "complete" (whatever that means).
For me the file is "complete" when it contains all the necessary definitions.

Hi,
Apologies if this is slightly off topic, being in reference to the denx 2.6 kernel git repository as opposed to U-boot specifically.
I tried to grab the latest 2.6 code but it consistently bombs out. The following is the exact log:

Check your voltages (and their power-on sequence) and especially the clocks.
We have tried with two different power-up sequences, and have the same result... Going even more OT: Do you actually know the most optimal powerup sequence for the 405EP? Because the datasheat doesn't specify...
Thx, Martin

Thanks for your reply! I had tried several different version of
ppc_8xx-gcc to build the same u-boot.Only version 3.2.1 works ok. All the others(3.2.2, 3.3.1 and 3.3.3) have the problem that I have said before. So I think that maybe there is something different between these versions of gcc. Would you please explain it to me? Thanks a lot.

"the board with MPC852T"? There is many such boards, most of
them differnt.
There is declaration of rtx in cpu/mpc8xx/fec.c:
...
static RTXBD *rtx = NULL;
...
I think that "rtx" should be NULL at the first time
fec_init() is entered,so the rtx will be given the value.
but after the ELDK make the u-boot, "rtx" isn't
NULL at the first time fec_init() is entered, it is 0xffffffff.
What makes you think so? The code is running perfectly fine on many boards. Which specific problem do you see?
Before the word "memctl->memc_mbmr = 0xD0924114"
in the function initdram, rtx is NULL(0x0),but after that it
is 0xffffffff. Part of the fuction initdram is below:
Looks as if there was a bug in the SDRAM init sequence for your board.
I wonder what happens in "memctl->memc_mbmr =
0xD0924114;",would you please explain it to me ? Thanks!
Please see the processor's User's Manual; read the memory controller section.

You probably configured a wrong console port in Linux. [But this is off topic here on the U-Boot mailing list.]

If no information display in terminal, whether it is caused by the wrong address set in configuration file or by the serial initialization?
Or by any other error in your port. You have a debugger attached, use it. That's what it was made for.

start.S is definitely not the place for (re)mapping flash. Please read the README. Only after relocation to RAM the flash seize can be determined, and only then the final mapping can be set up. Just like it is done now - at list in all sane ports.
