imx8mn ddr4 evk prints the SPL part just fine.
Take a look at arch/arm/dts/imx8mn-ddr4-evk-u-boot.dtsi .
It passes:
&uart2 {
      u-boot,dm-spl;
};
&pinctrl_uart2 {
     u-boot,dm-spl;
};
Are you doing the same for the imx8mn ddr3 u-boot dtsi?
