Take a look at: [PATCH v2 0/7] arm: socfpga: update socfpga environments and adjust accordingly.
I checked this patch series, it is in v8 and it hasn't integrate to mainline yet. I will working my patches on top of this patch series, is it okay?

Frankly, i would just ignore that patch set. i will submit a new one that just moves directly to distro boot. sorry for the fuss.

That patch regarding searching for a partition type that Tom accepted sorts that out. spl searches for the 0xA2 partition for the uboot.img when CONFIG_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE_U_BOOT_USE_PARTITION_TYPE=y and CONFIG_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE_U_BOOT_PARTITION_TYPE=0xa2. With that the uboot partition in raw mode can be anywhere.
