I have been scouring the code (u-boot) to see evidence of using SPI to configure the ethernet PHY. I do not find anything that is obvious. The board uses BMC54XX ethernet transciever. I will appreciate any insight from you .
I was able to locate and use QE configuration of IO pins. Many thanks.

Sorry, can't help you here. Maybe somoene from the u-boot list has better knowledge of this?
