[U-Boot] user input

I have a script environment variable called set_mac_IP which requires me to do "setenv sn 1234" ( or whatever ) before I run it.

The script is always run from the console.

Is there a simple way to do

ask sn; .....

and ask for a number to be input on the console?

I was wondering if hush could manage this in some way... but my head hurts
