I use an ARM MV tool chain and its always broken here for my OMAP builds also. I just locally have made a similar change to make the compile work. Whenever I merge in updates I skip this one. I've never bother submitting a patch for it as I assumed it was a bug in the tool chain and I didn't want to update just yet.
From a convenience standpoint I'd like to see this patch applied, but I
wouldn't complain if it isn't as the code is correct.

Yep, I had noticed this long ago too. Why not just add "-I srec" as in the attached?

the elf file
and not the srec file, which allows a clean build.

PS. MontaVista have 'no general interest in supporting srec input' because of 'how little information srec files contain'.
