it's good that you don't have that cruft :). i've also found that many Blackfin linux drivers utilize IRQs/DMA heavily while the u-boot driver does polling/register banging. sometimes this can make a huge difference to the code base, as well as hit a completely different set of issues (such as hardware or documentation bugs). -mike
