It is obvious that you can invent some new stuff (or rather reinvent existing stuff) and then use it for your own boards.
The questions remain if this makes sense, and if this should be added to mainline.
From what I've seen from your image processing code, this looks
largely redundant do already existing features, and I see little sense to add board-specific variants for everybody who wants to define his own private "standard" instead of using existing code.
