Saving 1 MB? So how big is your U-Boot image, then?
To be exact
For a thumb build: 363288 bytes
For a non thumb build: 482072 bytes
That saves 118784 bytes or 116 KiB. This is still a lot, but far from the dramatic "1 MB" you claimed...
