Plain "spl" is fine with me, or perhaps something like "bootstrap" or "preboot" would be clearer.
"spl" is OK with me. The other two might cause discussions (all U-Boot is about how to "bootstrap" an OS, and what exactly is the "boot" that is preceeded by preboot?).
