[U-Boot] Call for participation in the U-Boot Mini Summit 2014

Hi, as already indicated, we are looking forward to our next U-Boot Mini Summit at Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2014 which will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany from October 13 - 15. The call for papers of the main conference is now open[1] and if you want to submit a talk for the main tracks, you should note the deadline of July 11. For our U-Boot Mini Summit, I'd like to get the schedule completed synchronized to the schedule release of the main event, which is August 12. So please submit talk proposals here with at least me on CC. To coordinate the event better, I have setup another wiki page[2] that can and _should_ be edited by the interested parties. Feel free for example to add yourself to the "interested participants" so that we get an idea of how many of the U-Boot developers will be there. To make use of those edid information in the board code this patch add a function to convert edid to fb_videomode. [U-Boot] Mainline u-boot SPL for socfpga

Hello I am trying to understand the state of the socfpga preloader in mainline u-boot. >From what I see, this is broken and perhaps has never worked. When I build the code in u-boot-socfpga I get a healthy working u-boot-spl.bin of approx 45kbytes. When I build the mainline u-boot code I get a broken u-boot-spl.bin of approx 3kbytes. It seems the mainline u-boot is missing stuff, including the all-critical sdram initialisation without which the SPL is useless. So, I have a few related questions: 1. The SDRAM init code, like other SocFPGA "hand-off" files is generated by the Altera tools. Since it is not hand written, and is not compliant with u-boot coding style. Is it more important to preserve coding style and have a broken SPL than it is to have a working SPL and broken code? 2. Is there a practical "half-way" compromise whereby the generated code is run through lindent and we just accept that this is as good as it gets? 3. Can we get some sort of coding style waiver, considering that this code is off in a board file and does not impact on anyone working on anything other than socfpga (indeed nobody even working on socfpga even reads it). Clearly significant hand editing generated code makes for a very broken workflow, but running it through an automated step like lindent is Ok from a workflow point of view. Unless this can be resolved we end up with a situation where people working on SocFPGA are forced to fork for practical reasons. Regards Charles

[U-Boot] [RFC 00/10] clang support for ARM

Hi, I rebased some patches with should compile a working u-boot with clang and gcc (besides a couple which don't have memset), but I didn't bother too much about that for now. Obviously this is not intended for the next release, but a request for comment. Clang is not really fond of the gd assignment and I tried to get rid of them since crt0.S already handles this. I also added clearing gd (in a broken way) to crt0.S to prevent all board_init_f having to do it again and again (i2c / serial typically depends on it). The most important question is if these patches break any existing board. Your feedback is welcome. [U-Boot] Verified boot and Legacy Kernel Images

Please help as I am confused. I implemented verified boot on 2014.04 using CONFIG_OF_SEPARATE and it works fine with FIT images. However it still boots the resident legacy kernal that has not been signed. This means that anyone wishing to circumvent the signed hash can do so by replacing the image file with a legacy one. That makes for a security hole and so I must have done something wrong. When I look at function bootm_find_os() from file cmd_bootm.c its switch statement provides this behaviour - case IMAGE_FORMAT_LEGACY: cool, its a go from me. Verify using an unsigned hash. break; #if defined(CONFIG_FIT) case IMAGE_FORMAT_FIT: do the signed hash checks when loading the image. break; What I cannot find in the code is anything that I can compile in to prevent an unsigned legacy kernel from booting. [U-Boot] Uboot - verified boot - CONFIG_OF_SEPARATE

Hey! When I build my Uboot with the CONFIG_OF_SEPARATE set to gain access to the compiled dtb, Uboot can't find my concatenated dtb during the boot. After injecting the pulbic keys for the verified boot, I cat the u-boot.dtb behind the u-boot.bin. After that I mkimage the u-boot.img as usuall. I found, that if I change the offset where the fdt_blob is searched for by +300, it finds the dtb correctly. Like this: ------------------- #elif defined CONFIG_OF_SEPARATE /* FDT is at end of image */ - gd->fdt_blob = (void *)(_end_ofs + _TEXT_BASE); + gd->fdt_blob = (void *)(_end_ofs + _TEXT_BASE + 300); #endif ------------------- But I can't explain why this might be. The 300 isn't a random value! I calculated it via some debug output and it works reliably. But like it is with these workarounds, I don't like them! So I'm searching for an answer. Any ideas, why the offset is not _end_ofs + _TEXT_BASE, like it should be? Cheers, Thilo

[U-Boot] newbie questions regarding some config options.

As per the README file: Subscribe to u-boot mailing list; if (clueless) email("Hi, I am new to U-Boot, how do I get started?"); I'm messing around with uboot and QEMU (qemu-system-arm -M realview-pbx-a9 -kernel u-boot.bin), things are going pretty well in the sense that I'm not having too much trouble reading most of the code and creating a new board. I have some questions that I can't figure out by reading the code. What is the CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE variable and how can I figure out what it should be?
