Hi; My initial binary image for MPC8280 has .text begin at 0xff800000 and _START (entry point) at 0xff801004. However, after mkimage, this original memory locations have been offset by 64 bytes. The image is loaded into flash memory at 0xff800000. My question is how, if it is possible that I can execute-in-place my application+psos kernel with bootm from u-boot? Isn't "-a <load address>" of `mkimage` command meaningless in XIP situation? Here is a manual webpage for SBC-2410X (in Chinese): http://www.arm9.net/matrix-v.asp Recently, I am working on making U-Boot boot from nand on SBC-2410X board. Do you think it is meaningful? In my opinion, nand flash has at least advantages below: 1. nand flash is cheaper than nor flash. 2. nand flash is bigger than nor flash in size. We can boot from nand flash, meanwhile it serves as data rom too. Nor flash seems redundancy on the board. Of course, nor flash is popular yet. No wonder that U-Boot considers nor flash as boot rom by default. But, why SAMSUNG's S3C2410X owns builtin "boot from nand" function? It hints. "Recently, a NOR flash memory gets high in price while an SDRAM and a NAND flash memory get moderate, motivating some users to execute the boot code on a NAND flash and execute the main code on an SDRAM. S3C2410X boot code can be executed on an external NAND flash memory. In order to support NAND flash boot loader, the S3C2410X is equipped with an internal SRAM buffer called ‘Steppingstone’. When booting, the first 4 KBytes of the NAND flash memory will be loaded into Steppingstone and the boot code loaded into Steppingstone will be executed." --quoted from S3C2410X's datasheet. Correspondingly, YAFFS, a NAND-flash friendly filing system, will be a good choice to be added into U-Boot. Yes, but It depends on the architecture and port. For OMAP24xx board you can use jtag and load directly into SDRAM and execute, or you can change the base address in config.mk and compile for SRAM and load and run from there. It is handy to use u-boot from RAM to burn a version into flash. For this to work, along with the compile addresses, the code needs to worry about modifying clocks while executing in a given memory. The ARM-242X port does this at run time, others may or may not. Hi All, I am working on walnut board which is having 4MB flash . Currently it is working fine. We are trying to place 8MB Flash to accomidate some extra software components. Now my question is , what are the necessary modifications to the existing u-boot files to make it work with 8MB flash insted of 4MB flash? Can anyone help me in this regard? Hi, I have gone through the u-boot code. My problem is i don't have the FLASH on the target board, my u-boot code everytime will be written to the target board via a external host. Whats should i take care or modify the Existing code. if My CPU is ARM9 and board type is notlisted in the standard one. My target procesoor is dm320. Thanks Harsha S

Dear all, I am new to this mailing list. I have some questions regarding the U-boot. I have gone through the u-boot code, There is no u-boot for the DSP processor DM320. where i have search for the u-boot for my DM320 board. My board configuration is as fallowed. I have a DM320 processor and my host processor is IXP420. I don't have the FLASH in My DM320 side, my U-boot should be loaded to the memry of the DM320 by IXP420 processor. As u-boot source code suggest that for loading from the FLASH. Whats the changes i should make in commonly used files for the for loading the U-boot to the DM320. And if anybody have reffernce for the DM320 u-boot developmenet please do help. the refferesnces. Thanks Harsha S

Hi, This is off topic here. But Wolfgang, will there be a mailing list dedicated to ELDK questions? I'm trying to cross compile the package "lrzsz", a GNU/autoconf'd software. No matter how I configured, it could never detect the cross-compiler ppc_4xx-gcc. So I'm wondering if ELDK supports autoconf? Well, the more general question is how to cross compile a autoconf'd software using ELDK? Thanks a lot, -Shawn.
