The mii info command (the !CONFIG_TERSE_MII version) has a bug in current cvs. If the phy address is passed to the command the code assigns the variable addr to start, instead of the values of addrlo which is extracted from the command line. At that point in the code addr is always 0. to demonstrate find a board with a phy at a non-zero address, compare the results of 'mii info' and mii info 1' (substitute the phy address on the test board for 1). Also in this file on lines 55 and 418 there are two places where a call to mii_init() is conditionally compiled in, but one condition includes defined(CONFIG_MCF52x2) and the other doesn't. hi, all. SBC-2410X is a board based on SAMSUNG S3C2410 made by friendly-arm, which is similiar to smdk2410. Now, I succeed to port U-Boot to SBC-2410X. In addition to write the new hardware-specific configurations for SBC-2410X according to steps from U-Boot's README, I make U-Boot's nand subsystem work on SBC-2410X and add to hush cmdline-editing (but AUTO_COMPLETE cannot work to go with it yet). About bugs of NAND subsystem ============================= The original nand subsystem lacks flash_chip-specific functions like NF_Conf and the related enum variable NFCE_STATE for each board, right? Though some boards put them in one sole head file in their board directory, it seems broken because the compilation always shows errors. Take VCMA9 board for example. I can not get U-Boot 1.1.3 to read from or write to the KS8721 PHY on the M5282Lite EVB. Is there something I need to be aware of to get this working? I've enabled CFG_DISCOVER_PHY, but it is always coming back with a 0 for the type. Thank you!

[U-Boot-Users] How to boot zImage in Flash memory?

Hi all, I tried to migrate u-boot-1.1.3 on my Samsung S3C44B0X based evaluation board and my target was booting uClinux with U-Boot. Several days ago I could see the serial port output and the user input prompt in minicom at last. Then I configured and compiled the uClinux-dist-20040408 on the Fedora Core 4 platform. As a result, I got an 826KB zImage binary file(As far as I know, the zImage consists of a Linux kernel image and a ramdisk image.) in the uClinux-dist/images/ directory. I downloaded it into the Flash memory(Intel 28F320C3B) using a flash programmer application on the Windows XP platform. But I've tried to boot the zImage using "bootm" commands several times but all failed. U-Boot always prompted "Bad Magic Number" error. So I wonder how to boot zImage in Flash memory in my case. Besides, I still have some questions about the migration. For instance, I don't know the meaning of "CONFIG_BOOTFILE" when I referred to include/configs/B2.h. And I don't know how to configure my "CONFIG_BOOTARGS" correctly. And the distinction between "CONFIG_BOOTARGS" and "Environment Variables" since I am not familiar with the booting of Linux. Hi friends: I am using u-boot.1.1.3 on my mpc8540 board now.When the u-boot code is running,printf() can not output any infomation even a single charactor,but puts() can.If printf() is not used,the monitor prompt "=>" is ok.I think both DDR and LBC are working well,maybe there is something wrong with the init_ram(cache)? Hi list, I followed the discussions about broken linker and wrong command table relocation and decided to dig somewhat deeper. I have sent a report to the binutils guys. Please see the short discussion on the binutils list about that issue: http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2005-08/msg00412.html You'll also find the version information there, about the point the behaviour of the linker changed and the explanation of Alan Modra why it has been changed. In the end, I got the expression, that we really need to introduce a small change to the linker scripts to fix that issue: . = .; __u_boot_cmd_start = .; .u_boot_cmd : { *(.u_boot_cmd) } __u_boot_cmd_end = .; The . = .; is the proposed fix. See ld.texinfo "dot outside sections" for more explanations. Hope that sheds some light on that issue. Hi, I am going through the uboot drivers code for smc91111 ethernet controller in uboot. My Objective is to know how boot loader configures the ethernet controller. This is for the first time i am going thru a boot loader code. I have some doubts: How does a boot loader know which device is connected. say i have connected the smc 91111 ethernet controller - how does it know it is smc91111 controller. I think as soon as it detects the smc91111 controller is connected. it must configure that - i think the code in drivers/smc91111.c must be executed. What will happen if there are 2 ethernet controllers in the board. how u-boot responds to this. However, i am not following the code given in smc91111.c i really dont know what it is doing ?. i have the data sheets with me and going thru it. i must admit i am totally confused. Does anybody know what constitues configuring a ethernet controller and what the code does ?. i would request you to kindly let me the flow in u-boot. from startup to configuring ind. devices. Hi list, Does anyone have a patch that supports USB on the MPC82xx? Is there any plan to add such support? The original MPC8260 doesn't have USB microcode, but Freescale added it to the MPC8271, MPC8272, and MPC8280 range. I'm considering getting an MPC8272ADS board, but I need to know if it is possible to build a u-boot for this platform that is capable of loading a kernel image from a USB pen drive partition. At the moment the 827x uses the code in u-boot/cpu/mpc8260, and I can't see any USB driver in there, so I know that some changes will be needed. Dear U-Boot community! I would like to use separate directories for source and object file when compiling U-Boot, like it is possible for the Linux kernel 2.6.x. Unfortunately in U-Boot there are generated source and configuration files which also would have to be moved to the object file directories. The reason for such a separation is that I would like to use a common source tree for several hardware configurations of the target system; a global "make all" should create all configurations at once. Hi, I use board DK20K200E with NIOS, 64MB SDRAM module and CS8900. U-boot was get today (29-08-2005) from CVS. I create gziped standalone images of kernel (2.4) and romfs. I use autoscript to load it from tftp server. The script is put on tftp server and downloaded after obtained ip address by dhcp. The script correctly downloads both images and put in right place in memory. "iminfo" shows that CRC is correct for both images. But "bootm" show an error -4 Z_MEM_ERROR() in inflate() function. I set "unc_len" to 0x800000. It's enough for kernel and romfs. >From /include/configs/20K200E.h: #define CFG_MALLOC_LEN (CFG_ENV_SIZE + 10240*1024) Size of uncompressed: romfs image: 4965376 bytes, kernel image: 1044480 bytes. But the problem disappears when I remove "bootm" from autoscript. And run: "bootm 5100000 5400000" by hand in console after downloading images by the script. The kernel boots and mounts romfs. Hello, I am trying to compile u-boot for the first time. My target board is a custom device with only a UARTLite, SPI Flash, and SDRAM with PPC on a Xilinx FPGA. I continually get the same error when I try to generate libraries. I am trying to generate the libraries through the EDK IDE. Is anyone on this board familiar with porting u-boot to a Xilinx device in EDK? If so could you help? The stand alone OS works just fine on this project before I changed the OS_NAME in the mss. The command that EDK 6.3i issues to generate libraries: libgen -mhs system.mhs -p xc2vp4fg256-6 system_u-boot.mss The error message: WARNING: The parameter USE_DCR for the intc driver has been deprecated. Any reference to this parameter in the MSS file will be ignored. define_config_file: XNullHandler ERROR:MDT - Error while running "generate" for processor ppc405_0... make: *** [ppc405_0/lib/libxil.a] Error 2 Done. Hello, is there some special setting necessary to see any possible exception. What is the default state for CCM board. Can Linux overwrite setting done by u-boot. There is running application on Linux and at higher temp there is a SW watchdog generated. Now I would like to see the root cause if possible. If I change SYPCR:SWRI, card is frozen. If SWRI is active HRESET is triggered and card restarts. thank you best regrads ivan
