[U-Boot-Users] usb_<foo>_descriptor structure defined in both include/usb.h and include/usbdescriptors.h

Hi; I notice that various usb_<foo>_descriptor structures are defined in both include/usb.h and include/usbdescriptors.h. In addition, include/usb.h has some additional fields in usb_interface_descriptor and usb_config_descriptor structures and they are mainly used in cmd_usb.c In the meantime, usbdcore.c reference the same structures in usbdescriptors.h. Is there any plan soon to merge the structure definitions in one file, say, usbdescriptors.h? Regards, TEH

Hi, while trying to build a u-boot image for Ocotea out of the latest CVS, I noticed the following problem: ppc_4xx-ld: section .bss [fffeeb00 -> fffffec7] overlaps section .bootpg [fffff000 -> fffff21b] This one should be solved, either by reducing the command set (i.e. removing CFG_CMD_BEDBUG) or increasing the size back to 512k, as it was before the latest changes took place... [U-Boot-Users] ARM targets compil error with gcc >= 3.4

Hello everybody there is a compilation error with GCC >= 3.4 and all U-Boot ARM targets like motorola mx1ads (arm920t). the ARM '-mshort-load-bytes' compilation flag is deprecated and no more supported. Since all referenced ARM cpus are based on the ARMv4 core or higher, It is possible to remove this flag. the binary code produced is compatible (as described in GCC doc). I checked it with the ELDK GCC 3.3.3 and a GCC 3.4.2 without problem on a Freescale imx board. Note: There is an alternate GCC flag to solve this problem (- malignment-traps) but this flag seems to be deprecated with the recent GCC 4. Actually i'm interested to solve the problem with the arm920t. Hello, I thought I needed to create a board support package with Xilinx generated libraries for their PowerPC core and FPGA, and then merge it with the U-Boot source tree in order to compile. However since I have changed the OS_NAME and target directoyr in the mss file to target U-Boot I haven't been able to generate libraries for the Xilinx FPGA, which I beleive I need in order to compile U-Boot so it runs on the custom board I have. I was hoping someone on this measage board would have experience with cross-compiling a u-boot image to target a Virtex II Pro FPGA or any Xilinx FPGA with an embeded CPU. If you only want questions and information in regards to development on this e-mail list could you please let me know if ther is another mailing list for new users? Attached is a patch that preserved the contents of PHY_BMCR during a soft reset by only setting the reset bit. This allows the PHY strapping to be preserved. The patch also include an enhancement that allows overiding of the miiphy_speed and miiphy_duplex functions when RGMII is used without PHYs for proper MAC configuration. Hi, The patches were developed on an ARM IntegratorCP board with ARM946ES. Since the majority code of ARM946ES cpu was copied from ARM926EJS and there was bug about CFG_HZ found in ARM946ES later, I also fixed this CFG_HZ error on ARM926EJS. The major changes are 1. Mulitple core modules support (u-boot.multicm.patch) Following OMAP boards' methodology, I added mulitple core module configuration. For example, integratorcp_946es_config is for IntegratorCP board with ARM946ES, integratorcp_config is for IntegratorCP board with ARM926EJS by default, integratorap_946es_config is for IntegratorAP board with ARM946ES, and integratorap_config is for IntegratorAP with ARM926EJS. Now only two core modules are supported, ARM946ES and ARM926EJS. 2. ARM946ES support (u-boot.arm946es.patch) 3. ARM926EJS bug fix (u-boot.arm926ejs.patch) Fixed CFG_HZ problem. Set CFG_HZ to 1000. The solution is from AT91RM9200. 4. IntegratorCP bug fixes (u-boot.integratorcp.patch) Added SDRAM size information and FLASH support. Philippe, I don't have an ARM926EJS core module. Rationale: Certain commercially available tool-chains provides b0rken libgcc.a (compiled with hardware FP) making these helper functions unusable (U-Boot already provides the unsigned counterparts in lib_arm/libarm.a). Just to clarify my previous message, there was an error in it. I did not actually modify the cpu/mpc85xx/Makefile Instead, I fixed the linker problem by removing the reference to cpu/mpc85xx/tsec.o in the u-boot.lds file for my board. I had copied this from board/tqm8540/u-boot.lds in the June 15th download. I am still puzzled as to my tsec.c was moved though. Hello, I'm half way (probably less) through porting u-boot to trizeps3 K&K cpu module that has PXA255, 32MB flash, 64MB sdram, OTG TD242Lp, DM9000 ETh and UCB1400 onboard. I'm stuck with DM9000 ethernet chip. Every packet that is recieved by the chip is supposed to be errornous. My DM9000 is at 0x08000000 and its IO port is at 0x08000000, while data port is at 0x08008000 (confirmed and working under supplied bootloader and linux). [U-Boot-Users] Flash boot issues with MPC8272ADS and PQ2FADS

We are using several PQ2FADS-VR and MPC8272ADS boards for a Linux project and are experiencing a high occurrence of boards that get into a state where they will not boot or behave erratically during boot. The symptoms are usually that board continually resets in u-boot. See below for output examples. In other cases, the system will get to the point of attempting to load a kernel, but will claim the checksum is bad, or will start booting the kernel and crash shortly thereafter. When folks bring me systems in this state, my "fix" has been to replace the 8MB flash SIMM. This usually gets them going again, but I honestly don't think the SIMM is the real problem. I have one PQ2FADS board that I have put four different SIMMs in and can not get it to boot. In most other cases, I can take the "bad" SIMM, put it in another board, reprogram it and it will work again (for a while). In all of these cases, we are using known good u-boots (built from unmodified 1.1.2 source for either the PQ2FADS or MPC8272ADS) and known good, tested kernels. Typically, users will have been working for weeks without a problem until they run into this. I have a question about the procedure ddr_enable_ecc() included in the U-Boot build only if CONFIG_DDR_ECC is defined CONFIG_ECC_INIT_VIA_DDRCONTROLLER is not defined The routine is found in file ./cpu/mpc85xx/spd_sdram.c so is for the 8540 and 8560 products. Most of the work in the routine seems to concern programming the DMA registers rather than setting the DDR "enable" flag. Why is this DMA configuration an essential step when ECC is used and apparently not necessary when it is not used? I cant see the link between the two. I am not a chemist or physicist but I think else the two different materials after a while build up some strange alloy / oxide that ruins the contact. [U-Boot-Users] single step flash w/ gdb ocdremote ??

I'm trying to bring up u-boot/arm Linux on a new board from scratch using a Wiggler and ocdremote. I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to single step code in flash. I can't debug from RAM because u-boot is working when loaded into RAM, the problem I'm trying to debug only occurs when u-boot is running from flash. Since ocdremote is only supported on Windoze I've installed cygwin and the xscale gnu tools from the macraigor site on an XP system and the Windoze/cygwin based Insight debugger is happy to single step code in flash. HOWEVER all of my development is on a Linux platform I'd much rather use DDD on Linux. Remote DDD works fine except for one fatal flaw ... I can't single step flash. It single steps code loaded into RAM. Since both insight and DDD are really just shells talking to gdb talking to ocdremote (gdbserver workalike) it seems clear that my problem is I haven't configured gdb to use hardware breakpoints while single stepping, but I've searched and searched and googled and googled and can't find anything other than hbreak. What am I missing?

The attached patch: 1) fixes a bug with the 'fpga loadb' command The bug is in calculating the config data size - 4 bytes of length info were being read as signed chars, casted to long, shifted and added. The cast to long was doing sign extension and causing an incorrect result if a byte was greater than 0x80. For me this caused the fpga load to end early and time out waiting for the hardware completion. 2) removes compilation warnings about using __FUNCTION__ concatenated with strings 3) changes the fpga loadb to always print the file header info during a load. I realize this patch is a mishmash - hopefully it's helpful to someone. -- Hardware, n.: The parts of a computer system that can be kicked.

Attached is a patch that fixes the configuration controller errors that sometimes occur when accessing the SystemACE CF. The patch also fixes the locking routines so that they do not stomp on the other bits in the controller register. Finally, the patch will auto detect the partition type to prevent "Partition x not valid on device y" error messages. It seems the MIB405 board (maintained by you) has SCSI support enabled, but the whole code in common/cmd_scsi.c seemd to be unused - for example, there is no caller of do_scsi() or do_scsiboot() anywhere in the whole source tree? [U-Boot-Users] u-boot 1.1.1 and USB mass storage devices

Hello, We are using u-boot on a Samsung S3C2410 based board and have USB mostly working using the arm920t USB driver. I say mostly working as some mass storage devices work fine, but most do not. Typically the behavior we see when they don't work is a "usb reset" reports the correct number of devices, a "usb tree" will return the correct device tree but "usb scan" will typically return a lot of CLI:TIMEOUT errors and seemingly never return. Sometimes it is able to find the storage device, but reading from it (it has a FAT16 filesystem) will return similar errors. I'm curious if these are known problems or likely to be something in the way we have (or have not) set up usb? Might anyone have some recommendations as to where to start looking? The mkconfig script does not execute properly in my cygwin environment, but is fine under linux. Changing line 35 solves the problem: from: if [ -z "$6" -o "$6" == "NULL" ] ; then to: if [ -z "$6" -o "$6" = "NULL" ] ; then The extra "=" is the culprit -- although I don't quite understand what's happening. Does this require a patch? Or is my cygwin environment screwed up? BTW: the bash version is the same in both environments. Regards, --Scott

In the 8260 FCC ethernet loopback test code, frames are deliberately sent as broadcast packets, and then any incoming frame is treated as having an error if it is a broadcast packet. The operator "==" is used instead of "=", which works with bash's built-in "test" (aka "[") but not with solaris "/bin/sh" i.e. the script is no-longer standard bourne shell compatible. Cheers! Hello everybody, as you might have seen from the latest check-ins on the CVS server (resp. our git tree) we are in the process of performing a major cleanup on the U-Boot implementation for all AMCC eval boards (Bam- boo, Bunbinga, Ebony, Ocotea, Sycamore, Walnut, Yellowstone, Yosemi- te). Our aim is to provide exactly the same look and feel across all these boards, and to create matching versions of the DULG for these boards. This work is being done by Stefan Roese, who will continue to have a look for these boards and other PPC4xx related issues. Assuming that you will agree I have changed the MAINTAINERS file and bestowed maintainership for these boards on him. Please let me know if you think this is not OK. [U-Boot-Users] PPC440GX exception handler and associated text strings

I'm having a problem with exception detection and subsequent message display while running u-boot-1.1.2: I'm currently running uboot-1.1.2 on a PPC440GX Ocotea evaluation board and am not seeing any exception messages (that are defined in u-boot-1.1.2\cpu\ppc4xx\traps.c) when I force exceptions to happen (I'm particularly interested in seeing the machine check exception string and associated register dump). What appears to be happening is the PPC just enters a loop and is no longer functioning when the exception happens. All the registers appear to be set up correctly. I can manually cause the exception strings to be displayed by using the 'go <handler_address>' uboot command, so I think the code built OK. The code I am running is umodified; it is the standard uboot-1.1.2 distribution for the Ocotea board. Does anybody have any ideas as to why I'm not seeing the exception strings when an exception occurs? Regards, -Scott

Hi, I know u-boot is not an OS and is not intended to implement all the functionality you might expect of one. Sorry, I should have been more clear in what I was trying to do. Given that u-boot can handle ethernet comms. I was looking at how I could enable telnet as an alternative to a serial connection. We're using a ppc based embedded controller in a network management capacity where there is already ethernet but no serial. It's not clear at the moment whether we'll boot linux or run a standalone application to perform management functions. The first step would seem to be to respond to interrupts on receipt of an ethernet packet. It was this first step I was asking for feedback on. Hi, I've got u-boot 1.1.3 ported to a development platform based upon an MPC852T and have one remaining issue with the ethernet. I can ping and tftp from the platform but cannot ping or telnet to it. I can see that both ping and tftp fire off the initial request and then sits there polling until they're done. I'm assuming that pinging in and telnet to the platform is different, as they will be interrupt driven, not polled, but I don't see any interrupts (the platform is configured for FEC so I should expect and external interrupt, right ?) I suppose that I'm missing some configuration but can't see what. AFAIK I've set the network environment variables correctly - as tftp works fine. Any pointers would be appreciated. Best regards. [U-Boot-Users] problems starting u-boot on AT91RM9200

I've been trying to get u-boot 1.1.3 to start on an AT91RM9200 system, but I can't get it to start properly. Once u-boot is copied to memory and loader tries to start it, I get garbage on the screen and that is it. The problem seems to be in lowlevel_initS. When it tries to transfer a setup value to a register, that's when it fails. I've tried just changing one value and it still fails. What am I missing? I've read the FAQs in the u-boot manual, but I haven't been able to find the right answer. Thank you!
