i see that in u-boot /cpu directory, there are several directories for arm,like arm920t,arm720t,etc.but for mips i only find a mips directory. does it means that the start.S under /cpu/mips/ is run for several mips cores, like 4kc, au1100,etc. if i port u-boot to 4kec, need i make a new directory in /cpu or just modify the old start.S in /cpu/mips/? and i wonder how difficult to port u-boot to 4kec,because i must finish it by the deadline,has someone succeeded in porting u-boot to 4kec? [U-Boot-Users] U-boot hangs in smc_putc

I am currently having the problem that my EP885C port of u-boot hangs in serial.c's smc_putc function at the point where it loops until the serial port is ready. I have scoured the past archives, and the best that I can get is that this could be a baud rate or port selection problem. For my EP885C board, I have the baud rate set at 9600, which I am nearly 100% sure is correct. I have CONFIG_8xx_CONSOLE_SMC1 set as 1, which I also believe to be correct. Are there any other reasons why the serial port would never be ready? Thank you for the help on this and my other previous posts. Will Haines

Both are PPC440GX based, direct peripheral bus connected compact flash, dallas rtc, write protected eeprom (strappings and ethernet MAC address). EMAC 2 is the management ethernet interface, EMAC 3 goes to a board to board connector. These boards are reference designs for the Sandburst HiBEAM chipset. [U-Boot-Users] Setting up reset on the EP885C

Hello, I am still trying to get my port of u-boot to the EP885C to run. When I use the Planet Core bootloader on this board it seems to execute from address 0xFC000000 in flash, so I set the text base and monitor base to this value. When I program the binary to the board using a BDM, I can see the u-boot string at 0xFC000000. However, when I try to run from 0xFC000000 or 0xFC000100 I get no display at all, and the BDM reads -TARGET: STOPPED. Also, when I try to just program to flash and then reset the board it seems as if no code is executing. Can anyone verify that 0xFC000000 is the correct flash location for an EP885C? Also, I am thinking that by resetting the hard reset configuration word, I could force the board to jump to the correct instruction location, but I am at a loss to figure out how to change the hrcw's value. Any help would be greatly appreciated--I can't test to see what works if the code won't even execute. Thanks in advance, Will Haines

I hadn't much time to analyze what's going wrong but I think the problem was that the kernel (linuxppc_2_4_devel from denx) tried to mount the root file system _before_ initializing of the usb sub system has completed. Hello, as mentioned before i´m using two Marvel 88E1111 PHY on my PPC440GX Board. They are configured as a RGMII to copper interface for use with EMAC 2 & 3. So now i´m in trouble with the configuration of the network. After booting i set with "setenv ethact ppc_440x_eth2" EMAC2 for networking. After that i try a "ping" to know if network is working. Reading the speed and duplex from PHY works, but after that i got in an endless loop. I figured out, that no interrupt is recognized and in 440gx_enet.c in ppc_440x_eth_init the default configuration of the interrupt handler is for ETH0: irq_install_handler (VECNUM_EWU0 + (hw_p->devnum * 2), (interrupt_handler_t *) enetInt, dev); irq_install_handler (VECNUM_ETH0 + (hw_p->devnum * 2), (interrupt_handler_t *) enetInt, dev); so i changed it as following... irq_install_handler (VECNUM_EWU2 + (hw_p->devnum * 2), (interrupt_handler_t *) enetInt, dev); irq_install_handler (VECNUM_ETH2 + (hw_p->devnum * 2), (interrupt_handler_t *) enetInt, dev); and added in vecnum.h these lines: #define VECNUM_ETH2 (64 + 0) /* Ethernet 0 interrupt status */ #define VECNUM_EWU2 (64 + 1) /* Ethernet 0 wakeup */ But this didn´t solve the problem. Actually i also couldn´t get the TxCLK work on my RGMII Bridge and i don´t know why. The devices are configured as 100 MBit RGMII and receiving packets from network seems to be functioning (EMAC_OCRX Register increments rapidly). [U-Boot-Users] Help debugging a PCI scanning problem

Hi all, I have almost completed the porting of U-Boot to my 7400/107 board. I am now able to boot from flash, tftpload the hello_world example and run it. :) However, there is a hack which I don't like and hope maybe someone can suggest why I need it and what the _correct_ solution is. When eepro100_initialize() is called it loops scanning the PCI bus for cards. I have such a card and it is found with no problems. The card is initialised correctly which is how I am able to tftpload the example. The problem comes after it has initialised the card. It looks for a second card and this seems to crash the system. For the moment I have added the following to the end of the eepro100_initialize() function: read_hw_addr (dev, bis); #ifdef CONFIG_PPMC7xx /* RAD * FixMe: This prevents a crash but means only * one network card can be installed */ break; #endif } return card_number; } which works. I can scan the bus with the "pci" command and get the following results. Obviously the network controller Dev number changes depending on which slot it is inserted into: => pci Scanning PCI devices on bus 0 BusDevFun VendorId DeviceId Device Class Sub-Class _____________________________________________________________ 00.00.00 0x1057 0x0004 Bridge device 0x00 00.11.00 0x8086 0x1030 Network controller 0x00 00.12.00 0x1011 0x0026 Bridge device 0x04 => There are only 2 slots on this board. Hi all i'm actually trying to use a LXT971 on a arm rm9200 based based board so i'm using the at91r9200dk_config to compile the sources i've just changed the dm9161.c and dm9161.h files to match the good register (dm9161.h contents is replaced by the one of lxt971a.h). I've put these two files in the mail So the PHY component is well detected, so as the connection properties (10/100 Half/Full-Duplex) but when i try to ping a foreign device (i've activate the ping function) or if i try to use tftp to download file, nothing is happening (no connection on the tftp server are detected) So does anybody have an idea about how to make the network component working? -- Cordialement Fabrice & Frédéric -- IFOTEC Tél : 04 76 67 53 53

Hi,All I have been working on such a board we made: *************************************** CPU: PXA255A Flash: Intel StrataFlash 16MB x 2 SDRAM: Samsung K4S5616320 32MB x 2 Two 16bits SDRAM chips are connected by the same CE,OE,OW,ADDRESS signals,forming a 32bits-width memory structure. *************************************** Using a emulator,I see the high 16bits of sdram works well,while the low 16bits always fail,though I've try many combination of configuration. We also found no problem with the hardware by an oscilloscope. (Finally we changed the high-16bit SDRAM chip but failed again.) I want to know what could lead to this? Dear all, The Ethernet protocol RAM area structure defined in include/asm/cpm_8260.h is taking 8 bytes of additional space due to "ushort rfthr" and "ushort rfcnt". These are not part of FEC parameter RAM area as per the MPC8260 / MPC8280 datasheet.Also as per the data sheet the size of the FCC (Ethernet) parameter area can be only 0xFF, due to these parameters the size is greater than 0xFF by 8 bytes. Dear All: My board's cpu is freescale 8247. I debug the linux kernel 2.4.26 with BDI2000 and ppc_6xx-gdb on it. My linux kernel text base on 0xC0000000, so some global variable at 0xCxxxxxxx virtual address. Now the problem is that I can not print the global variable's value, when i use "p" command in gdb: p /x ga. gdb always tell me it's zero, even if I directly print the content in the ga's address. But if I evaluate the ga's value to a local variable in programm, then print it in gdb, it can get me the correct value. It seems the global variable was processed correctly. But Why I can not get the value? where the global variable stored while kernel running? [U-Boot-Users] No boot prompt on Ebony 440GP board

I have a PPC440GP evaluation board ("Ebony"). I used the buildroot tools from buildroot.uclibc.org to build a cross compiler based on gcc 3.4.4. I then built u-boot by issuing make EBONY_config make which built u-boot without any errors. I then wrote the resulting u-boot.bin file to flash using a JTAG programmer. I set the DIP switches and jumpers according to the README.ebony instructions. When I power the board up, the following console text is generated: ----begin console output----- U-Boot 1.1.2 (Jul 6 2005 - 15:51:04) IBM PowerPC 440 GP Rev. C Board: IBM 440GP Evaluation Board (Ebony) VCO: 600 MHz CPU: 300 MHz PLB: 100 MHz OPB: 50 MHz EPB: 50 MHz I2C: ready DRAM: I2c read: failed 4 I2c read: failed 4 128 MB -----end console output----- and then nothing more happens. No prompt is displayed. I tried the J41/J42 bootstrap corruption directions, but it did not seem to have any effect. Could someone suggest what to do next? I assume I am supposed to receive a prompt that enables me to enter interactive commands. Is that correct? Thanks. I am attempting to boot Linux on a target platform using a USB mass storage device (flash disk) to hold the kernel and the root filesystem. I thought it may be a good idea to replicate the same steps used when booting from a tftp server, i.e. I copy the root filesystem (using an initrd image) to an address in RAM, then copy the kernel to a different address in RAM. Finally bootm with the start address of the kernel. Bootargs will be set during this process. So I created two partitions on the USB flash disk, partion 1 holds the kernel image and partition 2 holds the initrd image. The partition table looks like this: Disk /dev/sdb: 32 MB, 32768000 bytes 2 heads, 32 sectors/track, 1000 cylinders Units = cylinders of 64 * 512 = 32768 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 154 4912 83 Linux /dev/sdb2 155 308 4928 83 Linux My file sizes are: initrd: 1203800 bytes. uImage: 2285056 bytes. The command I want to use to copy the initrd is: usb read 20800000 x y. Where 20800000 is the address for the initrd to be copied to, x will be the block-offest to the start of partition 2 and y will be the size in blocks of the initrd image. Now I need to calculate the block-size based on cylinders, heads, units etc. My questions are, am I making this too complex, is there an easier way to achieve the same result of booting using a USB flash disk with seperate kernel/initrd images? Appologies for the long-winded pre-amble, but I don't know how to ask a question like this without describing the problem. Thanks for any insight, Neil.

Starting from the demo-design for the ml300 demo board, I managed to compile u-boot 1.1.1 (1.1.2 fails when running the tcl-script with EDK 7.1) and could download and run u-boot on my PPC. However, u-boot stops after printing U-Boot 1.1.1 (Jul 5 2005 - 16:50:28) ### No HW ID - assuming ML300 DRAM: 128 MB I get no further output afterwards. Another strange thing is, that I only have 32MB RAM on board but not 128MB as the ml300 has. However, I could not find any hardcoded RAM size in the source files for the ml300. Does anybody has an idea?
