Hei at all I have comiled u-boot and want to download the u-boot in RAM on Memec Evaluation Board. The board has 64K RAM and address is 0x00000000 to 0x03FFFFFF. When i use the commands described in examples e.g. xmd> ppcconnect xmd> dow uboot.elf xmd> run the xmd begins to download at address 0x04000000 !!! and at the console I get information on which addresses the sectors were placed. When i use the command with explicit address giving xmd> ppcconnect xmd> dow uboot.elf 0x00000000 xmd> run the xmd begins to download but i got no information at xmd console but no error, too. In both variants I get no connection at RS232(this is next problem) but this is perhaps another problem. What kind of dow command I must use? best regards, Andreas Schmidt

Hi, The patch attached adds write buffer programming support for AMD flash chips in the drivers/cfi_flash.c file. I've tested this on a custom board with AMD S29GL256M flash chips. I tried not to change the program flow for other flash chips available before, but I have no possibility to test this. Brad, Yuli, can you check this patch if it complies with your previous work? Patching the write_buff function + /* write buffer until next buffered_size aligned boundary */ + i = buffered_size - (wp % buffered_size); + if (i>cnt) + i = cnt; is necessary because AMD chips require the write buffer to be aligned with the size of the available write buffer. It probably doesn't hurt when programming other (Intel) chips. [U-Boot-Users] U-boot Port issue on MPC8280 board

Dear all, I am trying to port U-boot 1.1.2 onto a MPC8280 based Rattler board. After a long struggle I was able to map the board properly and I am able to get till display_options (where u-boot gets a reset in printf statement). I have the following questions: 1) Are there any patches to support CPM2 (Just like the one floating around for Linux) for U-boot? (Our board requires cpm2 support) 2) Whenever we try to access the serial routines (serial_putc, printf), we get a continous reset and we are unable to proceed. Hi all, I found the cross_compiling tool path setting of ELDK can be concise further. We could just set PATH=$PATH:/opt/eldk/usr/bin RATHER THAN PATH=$PATH:/opt/eldk/usr/bin:/opt/eldk/bin At least, the shorter setting work for me well to compile 2.4 or 2.6 kernel. Is it OK for other possible cases or any other cases still need to keep the setting? Wolfgang, Thanks for your reply. Maybe my configuration was wrong at that time when I compile sources. Now it works as you described. (It was non-sense to me too.) It means "__attribute__((packed))" doesn't affect 4byte access to serial controller. "__attribute__ ((packed))" only affects the alignment of the entries in the structure. It has no influence on how to access these entries. If your access is a 32 bit read or write access then it will not be changed whether there is a "__attribute__ ((packed))" in place or not. [U-Boot-Users] Cannot boot from a uImage on the lite5200

I'm having problems getting u-boot to boot linux from a uImage on my lite5200 eval board. I can load a zImage into ram (@ 0x200000) and use the go command to boot it with no problems. When I load a uImage I get the bootup debug banners from the linux kernel and then the board resets before the "Linux version ..." banner (and then my bdi2000 halts the board). I've included the console logs for both cases below. I noticed that the uImage has the load address set to 0x00000000 instead of the 0x00800000 that the zImage uses. Is this correct? I did try a uImage with load address set to 0x00800000, but I saw no difference. BTW, ignore the "unable to mount root filesystem" kernel panic in the zImage case; I know how to fix that. Has anybody had similar problems? I'm digging deeper into it now, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, g. Not really. I would suspect it is in cfi_probe or something. You might wat to send an explicit reset to your flashes after they are detected (in your mtdmap file) Flash can be reset usually by writing either a 0xf0 or 0xff to them. This really should go in the MTD mailing list and not u-boot.

[U-Boot-Users] [PATCH] drivers/cfi_flash.c support for 8 BIT mode Spansion CFI Flashes

Hi, Attached is a patch which add 8 BIT mode for 8x/16x CFI Flashes from Spansion S29GLxxxM It has been tested against S29GL032M, but has no specific checkings, so must be compatible with other ones. Additionally, CFG_FLASH_USE_BUFFER_WRITE and CFG_FLASH_CFI_AMD_RESET have to be defined in board config file. As port width is checked in runtime in flash_detect_cfi, and is not based in board config, I think this should be unified. " In u-boot, I entered commands to display memory: u-boot=> md 0xff000000 The magic number 0x1985 IS here!No 0x0020 exists at all!! It's quite strange!! Why Linux detects 0x0020 instead? Why U-boot can read the data on flash correctly while linux can't? Why linux always read all data as 0x0020? When I simply replace ST M29W640DB with AMD AM29DL640D (the two chips are pin-to-pin compatible,) JFFS2 works very fine! What's the problem? You delivered a really nice hint. But the example you listed couldn't push youself laugh to the end IMHO. AM29DL323 wasn't supported by cfi_flash driver, at least I tested it for Brad Kemp but we didn't succeed. Maybe now or other configuration can work? Hi I am trying to run Embedded linux (ELDK) on a custom powerpc board, which is similar to Artis A3000 board. This board has mpc8245(XPC8245LZY266B), natsemi 83815 ethernet, 4MB intel e28f320 flash, 16MB winbond w986432DH-6 SDRAM. So I configured and compiled U-boot for A3000 borad. U-boot worked on my board also. Next I compiled ELDK 3.0 for Sandpoint 8245 board and copied to flash. Linux kernel couldn't be booted in this way. "go" is not for linux. Go back to use bootm in u-boot console. Still, one tip for you. Pls check your cmdline transfered by u-boot. Well, u can try debugging the kernel with BDI2000. Hello, I see the typical ARM target for u-boot is an arm-linux toolchain for a CPU with an MMU, like the ARM720T. Would it be a trivial or rather involved task to compile u-boot with an arm-elf toolchain for a CPU without an MMU, like the ARM7TDMI? Please cc me in your reply. Thanks! Shaun

Does anyone know why the difference ? Also, board Im using has EEPROM to configure the NIC during reset. And it contains 100b (shown on first line of output), however, print out of EEPROM from natsemi.c shows d008 as written in the NS83815 manual. I'm reading the natsemi.c but I just cant see why it would read some other value. Possibly failed attempt from using dp83815#0 device. What do you all think? I havent looked at it deeper enuf, but if I can get some shared thoughts it would help me out great deal. -- Daniel
