Hello, I am a new user, try to get the u-boot(with jffs2) work on a ppc405ep board(32M Ram, 8M flash disk, one serial port, one network port), it will has one partition for u-boot(128k), the rest make one jffs2 partition, the kernel and initrd will locate in this JFFS2 partition. First I build the u-boot.bin without configure jffs2 support, installed it to 405ep board flash memory, it works well, when turn on power, from serial port, I could get the prompt => and excute the u-boot command like setenv, saveenv. But after I configure u-boot JFFS2 support in include/configs/PPC405EPVV.h, add 4 lines: #define CONFIG_COMMANDS ( CFG_CMD_JFFS2 ) #define CFG_JFFS2_FIRST_BANK 0 #define CFG_JFFS2_FIRST_SECTOR 0 #define CFG_JFFS2_NUM_BANKS 1 (the 8M flash memery havs one bank, 64 sector.) after make compile, I load this jffs2 configured u-boot.bin to flash memory, turn on power, but nothing happened on serial port, no display, no prompt =>, could not type command, it seems u-boot crashed. That made our co-workers really unhappy with the network performance which, in turn, made the IT department very unhappy. We ended up with in an edict from the top that v3s were _not_ to be plugged into the network. LinkSys fixed the BEFSR41v3 (4 port) FW/Rs pretty quickly, but it took them nearly a year to fix the less popular 8 port BEFSR81v3 FW/Rs. Of course, we had been buying the 8 port version. Hello, I have problems compiling u-boot for the mx1ads board. I am using the latest cvs version from the u-boot repository and I have compiled my toolchain using crosstool-0.28-rc36 using both demo-arm-softfloat.sh and demo_arm9tdmi.sh (binutils-2.15, gcc-3.4.1, glibc-2.3.3, linux-2.6.8.1). Hello All, I am new to U-Boot. I downloaded u-boot-1.1.1.tar.bz2 now. After extracting the files, I was searching for README.serial_multi file in doc directory. I could not find and also I searched on the sourceforge-uboot mailing list. I got the information from the following link that it is available in doc directory. http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=5426897&forum_id= 12898 I am SORRY. Hi all, I have a query in Uboot regarding Compact Flash Access for a MPC8540 Based Board. Details : CF is connected thru LCS Chip Select and Configured in True IDE Mode . I have accessed the CF thru LCS and Im able to read all the CF info such as No of Sectors,Manufacturer,Model No..Etc. But I want to include the IDE support.I want the IDE Driver to probe the CF. Also I want to give boot support from CF. What are the changed to be done to do that ? If anyone has already worked in similar area , I think they can provide some useful info. I know that I have to change the ATA Base Addr in Configuration File. But apart from that what are the files that I have to focus ? Any Major modifications are needed ? Hi, I am currently using a LITE5200. There is a known (annoying) PCI issue with the MPC5200, and therdfore most of the PCI cards I have tried on the LITE5200 were not recognized. For several of them, u-boot even crashed (bus error). I was wondering if somedy has tried with success common PCI graphics cards and gigabit ethernet cards... - I have tried 3 different graphics cards (2 ATI, 1 nvdia) w/o luck - also tried a SMC gigabit pci card (ezcard 1000), no luck I have tried a suggested workaround, using an ICS574 to adjust the MPC5200 PCI clock signal from the PCI bus, but still no luck with the PCI cards I have tried (although it should work with the PCI SM712 eval board). Having said that, you are talking about a configuration that is board-specific and there may only be one usable choice for that board, in which case flexible software isn't useful. You need to be careful that the added complexity of flexible code doesn't obscure bugs, cause bugs, or cause obscure bugs ;-). Hi folks I'm trying to set up the serial interface on my happy little board. Reading the CPU's manual (CPU is mpc852T), I'm at this section called SCC Initialization. I'm a bit confused, because the initialization procedure specifically says: ... 10. Write ones to SCCM register to enable interrupts 11. Write CICR to configure the SCC interrupt priority 12. Clear out any interrupts in CIPR 13. Write the CIMR to enable interrupts to the CPIC. ... However, the u-boot code writes zeros to the SCCM and doesn't touch CIMR. So I guess it's polling based, yes? Then the question is, do I simply skip steps 10-13? If I wanted to use interrupts instead of polling, what else would I need to change? On a similar note, the manual for the MPC866, in appendix H which is specific for MPC852T, specifies that there is no BRG1 nor BRG2. The u-boot hard codes wiring BRG1 to the selected SCC. Why? Even more important: I have to obviously change it; is there more than one place I need to change (namely, replace cp_brgc1 with cp_brgc4)? Hi, i would post a question about toolchain on my custom pxa - lubbock.. I have a Toolchain from ELDK linux-arm version 2.95 and my u-boot compiled with this one work fine. I have also the new toolchain make with crosstool-0.28-rc36. but 2 problem are found. First) When compile Start.S a error are found about short-load-bytes Second) I have replaced -mshort-load-bytes with -malignment-traps in cpu/pxa/config.mk but the new u-boot hangs. hello everyone i have some questions about u-boot,the following are: the arm cpu that have the arm-tdmi core can port u-boot,because it has no mmu unit , i can't confirm that u-boot is siutable for it . In the files which i downloaded from sourceforge.net/projects/u-boot ,i find there is not this type of arm cpu that i have in the achived directory of cpu.My arm CPU is philips arm LPC221O. Either way, here is an answer to your question on interrupts... U-boot runs polled mode so yes, you should skip steps 10-13. U-boot is polling by design (simplicity). Adding interrupt handling to u-boot is unnecessary (in general) and undesirable. Linux uses interrupts by design (obviously, it is necessary to do multitasking). The good news is, u-boot (polling) will very happily start up linux which then does all the device initialization, etc. to do interrupts. Support for the common peripherals should already exist for your CPU and board in linux. I have downloaded the latest u-boot by means of CVS,and i configured it for MX1ADS,but I dont konw the code in board/mx1ads/flash.c int flash_erase(flash_info_t * info, int first ,int last) { ..................... icache_disable(); .................... } before the actual operation for the syncflash,why disable the I cache! I have dealed with Flash for some time ,but I never meet thing like such!

Wolfgang, Two separate issues here: 1. NAND environment support: It is in CVS. It is called env_nand.c. 2. 16-bit NAND support: I was just wondering if anyone wants to patch cmd_nand.c with 16-bit support. I have it working for my board but it is just a hack. I can share my code with others who hopefully makes it a patch to cmd_nand.c.
