G'Day everyone, I'm just putting together my patch (which adds my board). Two questions: 1. When attempting to test my patch to make sure that I haven't killed any of the other boards, do I need to build all the relevant tool-chains, or can I just use MAKEALL to build for the boards related to mine (e.g. pxa)? 2. When creating the patch, do I have to bring it up to date with CVS first? It says in the README that its ok to patch against the release (1.1.1), but I wanted to make doubly sure. U-boot is made to suport many referense boards, but that the use of that? it looks more like small OS than bootloader. It finaly must be customized to support some specific design only. But I have some problems with this. Can someone tell boot functions sequence? they are highly scattered between c modules. it taked very long even to find reset vector. u-boot source is not very clear. why random pars are in assembler and others in C ? When init.S from /board/walnut405 directory is used? seems it is dublicated in /board/walnut405/walnut405.c but now in c language. when I dissasembled the compiled image I was unable to find anything from init.S cpu/start.S does similar stuff and by some reason attempts to intialize some unknnown FPGA which is clearly unrelated to cpu at all, and should be moved to board specific module. basicaly I would like to completely rewrite initialization procedure, and put it all in one source file. probably the best would be to discard all exsisting initialization source and write new one. but I need boot function sequence for that. and point where the low level initialization is finished. I need to make custom initialization for ram ,rom, blink leds on gpio. and mainly remove al pnp stuff, like spd. probably no real board will ever use spd for sram. also removing everyhing unnesecary is required, flash is not hdd aftreall. I need it for linuxAP the board is with single ppc405gp cpu with 1mb flash and 8mb ram, uart1 pins, and probably pci interface. so I need to fit uboot in something like 16kb or less, but first I need to make it run at least. (that 1mb must fit kernel , rootfs, cfgdata, and bootloader) with 486 type cpu it is not big problem Maybe someone know how much u-boot can be stripped?

I am trying to get U-boot on a custome ppc440gx board (CPU, 64MB RAM and the 2 gigabit port). I have a problem, I am receiving this exception below. This happen when the EE bit is set in interrupt_init. kgdb: handle_exception; trap [0xb00] I am not sure what is the source of this exception. (decrementer should be 0x900) Before that I was getting exception 0x500(external interrupt) and trace it to the UIC registers(polarity, trigger,...) being cleared (where?). So I restore their value in interrrupt_init_cpu. Note that I have run vxWorks and Linux on this board. Hello all, I've build a custom board based around a 405EP processor with an OHCI USB controller on the PCI interface (ISP1561 from Philips). Looking into the u-boot tree, it seems that the only OHCI controllers supported are those included in the MPC5200 and in the S3C2400. Are there any people working on porting OHCI controller on the PCI interface? If not, what is the best starting point to perform the task (Linux drivers ...)? My numbers don't quite agree with yours... but I think you might be seeing "Fixed Interval Timer" as the source of the exception. Sounds like you are enabling interrupts before the handlers have been registered. The platform what I working with, is the AVNET platform. The code can be easily ported to the M5282EVB platform, by doing fews modifications. U-BOOT starts properly, and I write: -> setenv ethaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (AVNET MAC address) -> setenv ipaddr yy.yy.yy.yy (the AVNET IP address) -> setenv serverip zz.zz.zz.zz (server IP address) the problem is when I write: -> tftp 10000 /tftpboot/image.bin and the answer is: TX timeout fec.c[124] eth_send: cycles: 100 status: 8c00 retry cnt: 0 TX timeout fec.c[124] eth_send: cycles: 100 status: ac00 retry cnt: 0 TX timeout fec.c[124] eth_send: cycles: 100 status: 8c00 retry cnt: 0 . . . until I press CTRL+C, to escape. [U-Boot-Users] M-Systems Disk on Chip and U-boot

We're looking at using a DoC on our next product and I was wondering how the drivers (obviously supplied by M-Systems) are merged into U-Boot code? One of the newer P3 chips has an IPL section which is "execute in place" and would contain early initialization code for the cpu/board/SDRAM and then copy the body of the code into SDRAM. This idea sounds good for cost reasons (one device) but seems like an ugly hack to the structure of U-Boot. Any comments? Regards, Herb

[U-Boot-Users] Placement Question

Wolfgang, I have a question regarding the placement of a few source files within the U-Boot tree. Currently, there is an ethernet driver called tsec.c and tsec.h in the cpu/mpc85xx/ directory. This is clearly not the correct place for it. I'd like to detemine where the correct place is. This driver will be needed by the 85xx family of processors, and some new, not-yet-released processors that are in an entirely different family. Rather than cloning the file, I am thinking that it probably belongs either in lib_ppc or drivers instead. As it is already conditionally present based on the symbol CONFIG_TSEC_ENET, placing it in one of these places won't affect the size of other images that don't need it. Is one of these places the real right place? Is some other directory even better? Thanks, jdl

Wasn't there a section in the manual (U-Boot) about this, using U-Boot to load non-GPL applications [i.e. Whatever happened to Chapter 8] Also, what's the status for "standalone applications", i.e the U-Boot resources mentioned in 5.12 (console I/O, memory allocation, ...)? Hi, Long time list reader, first time question here. I'm reading over CVS Revision 1.6 of u-boot/u-boot/cpu/ppc4xx/spd_sdram.c and I have a question. Way down at almost the bottom of the function program_tr1() about where the rdclt_average is being calculated, there's a while loop that seems curious to me: rdclt_average = ((max_start + max_end) >> 1); if (rdclt_average >= 0x60) while(1); Does anyone know the reason for this, why 0x60 and why a seemingly silent hang?
