I am using the AT91RM9200DK, it has both USB host and device interfaces. Can I use the USB *device* port to load a binary image (uImage) into my development board? i.e. does u-boot support the USB DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) protocol? I know that the AT91RM9200 has support for USB DFU in its internal boot ROM, but I'd like to use uboot to load the image via image from a file server - similar to the way I would do it with tftp. If I make a product that has a USB device interface, I'd like to be able to upgrade the firmware via that same USB link. Aras

[U-Boot-Users] Unaligned Flash Writing with drivers/cfi_flash.c

In the CFI flash driver (drivers/cfi_flash.c), is it intended that the writes to the buffer in function flash_write_cfibuffer using the instructions such as "*dst.wp++ = *src.wp++;" work on unaligned addresses, i.e. 0x01 for source and 0x02 for destination? I find that, as should be expected, memory copy operations don't like working with unaligned addresses. However, when using the cfi_flash.c driver with buffered writes disabled, unaligned addresses aren't a problem. I see three options: --A user just knows not to perform operations that copy from bad addresses. --The driver copes with weird requests (and the code grows larger in size). --An error message pops out saying that the addresses don't align (and the code grows larger in size). Right now, I observe that my OMAP1510 Innovator board just crashes or resets. The less knowledgable user might like to know why that happens. Possibly off topic here, please bear with me... I have custom HW, ppc 440gx, with a xilinx system ace connected on chip select 2. I can read/write the sysace internal reg's w/o problem. However, when I attempt to read a sector of the compact flash connected to the sysace, I only get the first 16 bits from the fifo. Does anyone on the list know of any issues with the 4xx series and chip select 2? (Yes, I have checked the errata, nothing there). I thought I saw something fly by either here or on linuxppc-embedded, but I wasn't sure where, and a archive search brings up nothing for me. On another note, the HW engineers here are quite impressed with the capabilities of u-boot (they were skeptics at first, as they wanted to use PIBS (on custom hw even)). Kudos to Wolfgang, and the multitude of developers here! Thanx for any light you can shed on my situation, Travis

[U-Boot-Users] Preliminary patch for Cogent CBS336 (MC9328MXL-based)

Starting from Bryan Larsen's patch for U-Boot 0.4.0, I started porting U-Boot 1.1.2 on Cogent CSB336. The patch against current CVS is available for download here http://www.dave-tech.it/download/misc/up-csb336-1 (I could not attach because the size limit). Some clean ups are needed here and there. I had to change the routine reset_timer_masked in cpu/mc9328/interrupts.c (bug?). To initialize clocks and SDRAM controller I used the same values used by the Micromonitor bootloader the board comes with. I also had to avoid invoking funtion SetAsynchMode() otherwise the processor hangs. U-Boot seems to be stable but I could not load Linux kernel so far. I'm trying to start a modified version of the kernel 0.3.8 delivered by Motorola for the M9328MXL ADS. It seems the kernel does not like the parameters passed by U-Boot. Still working on it. [U-Boot-Users] Why the contents in SDRAM stay?

Hi all, I am playing with the u-boot that is just installed on my customed board with PPC405GP (based on walnut). The SDRAM I am using is SAMSUNG K4S561632D-TC75000. One interesting thing I found is, I used mm to change the first 4 bytes at address 0, which is suppose to belong to SDRAM, to 0xdeaddead. Then I turned off the power. After I turned on the power, I used md to check the memory. The content at address 0 was still 0xdeaddead. I changed the value several times and found once I modified the SDRAM, the content stays regardless the power is off. This is very weird. Should the content be lost once the power is off? Can anybody explain how it happened? BTW, after I turn off the board I waited for long enough (1-2 minutes) to turn it on. This may be a trivial question, but I hope that someone can answer me. I am bring up u-boot on 8xx. While doing source level debugging under ddd, whenever I do step, stepi, next or nexti I see green instruction pointer jump all over the code. e.g. it would go to first line, than third line, than 7 line. If I look at machine code window, it is running in normal predictable way.

...also do an "objump -h" on your elf file to see where everything is being located. Someone wants to locate a section in the wrong place or a section is way too large, but that is usually a symptom of locating a section in the wrong place or someone putting data in the wrong place. Track down where that section location is defined and everybody that sticks stuff in that section looking for oddball locations (like 0x040000xx). Quite often someone puts in a hardcoded address in the code, causing a section to get really, really large. Hi, We are using MPC885ADS Eval. board ,we are porting U-Boot 1.1.1on it and working fine, but we have following query 1. When we trying to change serial port from SMC1 to SMC2 by defining following in "MPC885ADS.h" : #define CONFIG_8xx_CONS_SMC2 1 /* Console is on SMC2 */ #undef CONFIG_8xx_CONS_SMC1 #undef CONFIG_8xx_CONS_NONE we are not getting anything on serial console. 2. We are getting 8 Mbyte of Flash memory SIMM - theRPCF08324NE5BSSG-70 by RPC , which internally composed of 16 AM29F040 devices. We are able to configure 2 MB Flash memory and working fine. Hello, udiv = (clk + tmp / 2) / tmp; is a classical way of having the result of (clk/tmp) rounded off to the nearest amount eg 25.78 to 26. Hi Herb, the I2C bus uses the SDA/SCL signals (pins A11/D11 - see chapter 9 in the PXA255 Processor Manual). Hello, Be highly cautious with PCI cards that claim 3.3V compatibility by having a notch in the 3.3V key position. Many of them still locally bridge the 5V and the VIO powers! I also have problems with some PCI cards. Some are recognized, some not. I haven't found an explanation, yet. I guess it has something to do with some "3.3 V compatible" cards are not really compatible with 3.3 V only systems. It could as well be an errata in the MPC5200 described in the MPC5200 Errata Listing: ID 322: Violation of PCI Tval min time The PCI Timing Speci?cation de?nes the timing parameter Tval (CLK to Signal Valid Delay): Tval min 2 ns, max 11 ns (33MHz) Tval min 2 ns, max 6 ns (66MHz) When M66EN is asserted, the minimum speci?cation for Tval(min) may be reduced to 1 ns if a mechanism is provided to guarantee a minimum value of 2 ns when M66EN is deasserted. MPC5200 provides Tval min of 1 ns (instead of 2 ns), which is a violation of the Timing Speci?cation for 33MHz. Reading PPC Memory from another device with the PPC as PCI target device corrupts data due to interenal hardware buffering. Fix to disable these buffers with no performance influence. a detailed description is available upon request (pdf, mailinglist bounces).

[U-Boot-Users] Errant Tab in drivers/cfi_flash.c

I noticed in the drivers/cfi_flash.c file, there's a minor error in text formatting that makes for an ugly display when running 'flinfo'. I tracked it down to line 465, where either "(RO)" or blank space is displayed, depending on the sector status. An errant tab is in there that looked like the two spaces that ought to be there, which caused my terminal program (Tera Term) to make the spacing between numbered sectors excessively wide, and also cause a blank line between every data-bearing line. The fix (note that I'm using [tab] and [space] here for clarity): Line 465... info->start[i], info->protect[i] ? "[space](RO)" : "[tab][space][space][space]"); ...should become... info->start[i], info->protect[i] ? [U-Boot-Users] Help with serial port set-up for PPC 8540

Hi I am trying to write an Assembly code , just to set-up the UART , so as to send a few characters via the serial port. I am working on a 8540 Motorola PowerPC . As I am starting right from the scratch I dont have the boot -loader doing the board initializations for me and so have to have my own start.S file to do those . I just have set-up the necessary registers for UART and as I am not doing any high level coding I havent set up the MMU , TLB etc. But my code doesnt seem to work !!! I assumed that that CPU would direclty read from the Flash .I am new to this and so I need some advise of what all have to be done during board bring up, or where should I look for such documentation. This just lets you store u-boot in memory at any address. When you being execution, the code is simply copied to TEXT_BASE, that's all. This initial bsr just lets us know where we begin execution, the value in %g7 after the bsr is the target address plus 4. Currently, for convenience and simplicity, the u-boot code, data, and command table are currently located contiguously. There's no magic here ... just load the binary to some arbitrary address, then single step through the code -- it'll help you understand :-) Best Regards, --Scott
