Another tip: look at your BDI configuration file and see what it is doing that you forgot to do in your initialization (often RAM initialization, sometimes port or other register initialization). You should run a stripped down BDI config file (minimum hardware initialization) which should also point you to the problem area (at least you will be able to do some debugging on the "broken" initialization). I have 852T with fads board. In the current setup, after power on processor starts to execute from 0xff000100 and flash is located at address 0x02000000 and first executable byte of u-boot is at 0x02000100. Well, in order to start executing u-boot code from flash without bdi attached, what needs to be done and where. I have some confusion in my mind. I know that higher order bits will be ignored (by settings of br0 & or0 registers). Even in this case changes should be made in u-boot or someplace else. If this is u-boot, than its kind of checken and egg problem. How will it know before reading u-boot settings for br0 & or0. Thanks for your help. Abu Sana

[U-Boot-Users] MPC8245 Silicon Workaround

What should be the policy on the tweaking hardware settings in the u-boot bootloader? [safe or not]. As a result of the PCI/Memory buffer remarks, I re-did my tests and I the troubles which required me to disable 3 of the 4 hardware buffers with the register PCMBCR are no longer there (data corruption). However, since then, my development board died on me and I had to replace it with a new production board which has a later (>1.2) silicon revision of the MPC8245 processor. Disabling the buffers is safe: it provides a workaround for a possible silicon bug in certain MPC8245 processors. However, it comes at a small (<< 1%) performance cost IIRC [1]. If it should be _safe_; then the patch I sent and is now in CVS should stay; if not, it can be commented out. I think it is still good to leave it in comments though... Any thoughts? Marc. [1] Obviously, I need to re-do these performance tests on a board with does not have the silicon bug (later revision, I am currently trying to trace the exact revision number in our ordering system).

Hi, I implemented bootsplash support for arm targets in u-boot. I'm reading dulg section 9.5. Splash Screen Support in Linux and can't find any reference to "CONFIG_8xx_PRE_INIT_FB" in edlk linux tree. Is this option been deprecated ? If so, does anyone have any pointers to this matter (old source) ? Regards, himba

Hi All, To start, I'm debugging u-boot on an at91rm9200. I'm having a real problem using step & next in gdb. After loading the program, I can use the bdi2000's telnet interface and ti ( step ) as many times as I like with no problems. In gdb step or next may only work once or twice before it acts like a continue... At the same time in the bdi window, it complains of all hardware breakpoints in use! How can this be? I've tried this in both gdb-6.1.1 and the latest gdb snapshot of 20040722. Why would gdb be trying to set more than two breakpoints for a step or next command. Before doing this, I have made sure that the bdi setpoints were cleared. I'm at a loss. If none of you have ever experienced this then I guess I'll have to call abatron. Hi, I have been able to build U-Boot, without -g and with -O0, with gcc 3.3.2 and glibc 2.3.2, with a cross compiler provided by Dan Kegel. I am using a MPC8540. However, when I do a build with -g and Os, the resulting U-Boot binary hangs! Has anybody experienced the same type of problem? And if you have, can you tell me how you resolved the problem. Wolfgang- Can you recommend a location to obtain an SRPM and patches for binutils 2.14? This seems to be the best thing to do before executing the instructions in section 3.7.3 of the DULG, "bash$ ${CROSS_COMPILE}rpmbuild -ba <package_name.spec>. I have no spec file for 2.14, so I don't think that step would work too well. Perhaps this would just mess everything up, but would it be better to just jump to binutils 2.15 instead? First, thanks for Wolfgang's reply to my last post. I'am trying to make U-Boot work with the NAND flash on H2, that is I hope U-Boot can boot kernel from Nand flash. I copied the codes related to NAND from u-boot-1.1.1-h3 (which can be downloaded from linux.omap.com) to platform.S, cmd_nand.c, omap1610innovator.c and omap1610h2.h. Compiling was ok, but once I run the u-boot on H2, it entered an infinite loop at nand_init (which called nand_probe, then NanD_ScanChips, NanD_IdentChip, NanD_Command). I found some macros (such as NAND_CTL_CLRALE) are defined as udelay(). It is ok for H2 or H3? Can anybody tell me whether the nand code works on H3? If yes, what about H2? Thank you. The MII speed is for the control of the PHY chip, not the data path. We are assuming you can read and write registers on the PHY chip (you can, right?) which implies the MII clock and data lines are configured OK. You need to make sure the clock signal generated by the PHY chip goes into your processor on the correct pin (and is the proper frequency and decent waveform, see above) and that the pin on the chip is configured properly as a clock input. I am debugging the u-boot(1.1.1) with BDI2000. I set only one breakpoint in ddd as: (gdb)b nand_probe then I typed: (gdb)c (gdb)n (gdb)n at this point, the gdb hung. Hello! I am porting u-boot to smdk2800 bord and use the eepro100 eth. card. I loaded the linux kernel image, but there are errors in the loaded image - approximitely 1bit to every 5KB. When I try to launch the kernel it prints message about crc error and then breaks. I have printed the internal card statistics and it sais, that no crc errors had been detected. Also I checked the configuration byte 8(bit 1)( having dumped the internal registers). It is correctly set up to 1 - that means card had been forced to check the control sum. Your environment start and/or end address is not on a sector boundary. Check your configuration: what is your environment start address and end address? What are the addresses of the sector boundaries of the flash you are attempting to save this into? Do they line up? Wolfgang- I will take a look at rebuilding binutils then. As for dual emailing the bulk of the problem actually seems to have come from something between my mailserver and lists.sourceforge.net. It took 28 minutes for my first message to be sent back to me on the list, hence thinking my first email didn't work. Past performance has been closer to 3 minutes.
