[U-Boot-Users] A strange problem in lib_ppc/board.c

Hi, I am trying to install u-boot on my Walnut with PPC405. After I load the program, the u-boot hangs without any output on the serial console. I located that the program is stopped at the point of where board_init_f() is called. More specifically, the u-boot stop at for (init_fnc_ptr = init_sequence; *init_fnc_ptr; ++init_fnc_ptr) { if ((*init_fnc_ptr) () != 0) { hang (); } } None of the function init_fnc_ptr pointing to has been called successfully. For test purpose, I wrote the following codes and put them in board_init_f(): 409 char s[10] = {'h','e','l','l','o'}; 410 if (s[0] == 'h') { 411 s_putc('y'); 412 } else { 413 s_putc('n'); 414 } s_putc() is a function I created to send one char to UART. It has been tested working fine. But the u-boot hangs at line 410. Then I changed the test code to the following: 409 // char s[10] = {'h','e','l','l','o'}; 410 char s[10]; 411 s[0] = 'h'; 412 s[1] = 'e'; 413 s[2] = 'l'; 414 s[3] = 'l'; 415 s[4] = 'o'; 416 if (s[0] == 'h') { 417 s_putc('y'); 418 } else { 419 s_putc('n'); 420 } Then the UART showed a 'y' on the screen, which is what I expected. So from the tests I did above, seems some thing wrong with the pointer. It also explains the reason why init_fnc_ptr didn't work well. But I couldn't figure out what is wrong. Hi all, Typical...I tried to recreate the problem with compiling the standalone examples and couldn't. However, as soon as I sent the previous e-mail, I realised I had other source trees around. It cannot be compiled with the newer versions of the GNU toolchain as included with ELDK-3.0. [WD] Please make sure to use a more recent version of U-Boot, for example the one that is included with the ELDK (see for example directory /opt/eldk/ppc_8xx/usr/src/u-boot-1.0.2). My installation of U-boot-1.0.2 (downloaded separtely from the "Leo" website) is placed at the same level of the ELDK... but I don't think that could be a real problem.... isn't it ? (path seems to be also recognised? ) But could you please tell me why, the make file is referring to the Hello_world file ?? On a ppc cpu, the processor first jumps at address 0xfffffffc. At this very address there is a branch instruction to a bootloader. For example, with the original bootloader this could be 0xfff00000. You could replace this value and the position of u-boot in flash by using the config.mk file in the board/$BOARD directory. Hi, I am porting U-boot to Intrinsyc cerfboard(PXA250 based). The toolchain used is 2.95.3. U-boot hangs just after relocating to RAM and there is no console output. Is there any later stable toolchain available to build u-boot. Thanks, Wolfgang. I looked up the man page for "objcopy". But the explanation is far more enough than what I need. So I am trying to find other sources. I check the site you gave me too. But it seems that some of the flags don't appear in the list, such as "alloc", "load", "rom" etc. I will try to find some other sites. If any of you happen to know any sites explaining the set-section-flag of objcopy, please let me know. I would appreciate your help! Hello, I am working on the ML300 board of Xilinx. I successed to use, U-boot (I put it in an ace file), linux kernel and the distribution (put on the SDRAM with serial port) I would like to put my kernel and my distribition images on the microdrive, and I want that the U-boot uncompress the kernel and distribution images from the microdrive. [U-Boot-Users] still having issues with timer exception

hello, the subject line sums it all... There's no way I can get the timer working properly. Again, this is an unsupported board yet with a ppc405 core. I am using a debugger from windriver. The pit register remains with the value 0 although the tcr is set to 04400000 (reload) and the instruction mtpit(61a80) is called... Oh and btw, I took the walnut board as a model to port u-boot on my board and there's something I don't understand quite well in the flash.c file: function flash_erase. Why are interrupts disabled? And how can the wait_for_DQ7 function called by flash_erase could possibly work with disabled interrupts (how could the timeout be reached?)? regards, François-Xavier SEINGIER

Hi people, Thanks for the help so far, I have successfully managed to patch and compile U-Boot for a Sharp LH7A400 board. Below is a listing of files from my system (bin, srec, etc) -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 91692 Jun 18 09:22 u-boot.bin -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 275178 Jun 18 09:22 u-boot.srec I am unable to load and run the image on the board. I tried sending the srec file over a serial connection to the board and them jumping to that image and that failed. I then tried to load the .bin file as an elf file and the transfer failed as well. This because I've used as reference another "ARM family" code for my port and, in fact, it was miss there too (at that time I've port u-boot version 1.0.2). Fortunately (or should I say "unfortunately"!?) I've no problem with bss (at least until now), I suppose because my global variable are initialized at runtime too. Guys, If you are keeping score on the 8540/8560 ADS front, I'd like to give you a minor update from the Freescale Perspective. I have just posted a new patch that should clean up and finish off my patches from 11-May-2004, 1-June-2004, and 3-June-2004 that were partially applied by Wolfgang a week ago or so. I have patches in hand for some DDR initialization bugs that I will verify and then submit to the list as well. Expect to see that mid next week or so. I will clean a -Wall nit, and fix a minor PCI board/cpu issue as well. Dan, I believe that the config file for the stxgp3 will need to have CONFIG_MPC85XX_TSEC1 and CONFIG_MPC85XX_TSEC2 #define'd now too if those are wanted. Compare with MPC8540ADS.h as needed. If you want me to take a whack at updating the stxgp3.h, I am will to; just let me know. Please let me know if you encounter any problems with these updates! Thanks, jdl

In another email to me, he indicated this was for an OMAP processor. Someone I work with already has done this and its working. Most of the u-boot code has been removed. Enough of the structure exists, so it feels like a u-boot build environment (and more or less looks like one also). We don't plan to merge it as it wouldn't make sense. We will provide it to people who want it for OMAPs and NAND booting, it is of coarse GPL. The when its easily available is probably the only minor issue. [U-Boot-Users] supported flashes?

Hi to all, It's the first time I write to this list. I am involved now in a new design based the MPC8272 processor. I have choosen U-boot as my booter am by now I am trying to select the flash memory, so I have to determine which are supported. And this is not very easy, because I couldn't find any doc related to hardware support. I have looked at the code and I found lots of files about flash support. In particular: drivers/cfi_flash.c board/mpc8260ads/flash.c common/flash.c common/env_flash.c I have concluded that cfi_flash.c gives support for all those flashes which implements the JEDEC CFI interface with AMD or Intel command sets, and mpc8260ads/flash.c gives support for the flash in the ADS board (which is not CFI at all). Am I wrong? What about the other files? Is there anywhere a list of supported flashes? In conclusion, can i suppose that any CFI flash with the appropriate command set will be supported by u-boot. Hi, I'm using a Sandpoint board with X3 (MPC8245) unity CPU card. Sandpoint does not have an ethernet controller.And since I have a PCI DECchip 21x4x Ethernet controller I want to use it with sandpoint board. I'm able to use this ethernet card with my linux image, it works fine, but I couldn't add this to u-boot image. So I'm dowloading the linux image by using "loadb" or "loads" commands via serial channel and it tooks to much time. You can see my previous tryings below. Is there anybody who has used this ethernet controller with Sandpoint? Or do you have any suggestion for my problem. Regards yio P.S: Below, there are previous messages between I and Wolfgang. goto's while ugly do have a good usage in error unwinding. Most of the C tomes say this and I agree... I didn't look closely at this specific situation in the 91111 and all of it's context, but from the patch it appeared to be an error path. Leaving with a return may be the cleaner thing to do here. Removing goto's is generally good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recode in instances when they are the most efficient way to go. Even toward the more trivial, I believe that Wolfgang or someone pointed out before that adding a ';' after the target goto label will also remove the warning. hello, I am trying to port u-boot to an EP405 board from embedded planet. I have never been so close to the end (sigh!) but it seems I'm too tired right now to spot out any more bugs... This time, I can't figure out what may have gone wrong: the timer exception doesn't seem to increase the timestamp variable. I looked around in a few files (start.S, exception.c, ppc_asm.tmpl...) but I must admit I've no idea what I've been missing. Any clue? thanks in advance, François-Xavier SEINGIER
