I just noticed that Cogent CSB272 is now incorrectly reporting 1000Mbps speed after the following patch is applied to common/miiphyutil.c * Patches by Travis Sawyer, 12 Mar 2004: - Fix Gigabit Ethernet support for 440GX - Add Gigabit Ethernet Support to MII PHY utilities Cogent CSB272 board uses Intel LXT971A PHY on board and current code is being fooled by this patch. According to datasheet of Intel LXT971A, PHY, PHY_1000BTSR register is listed among registers as 1000BASE-T/100BASE-T2 Status Register but it is marked as not implemented and no further data is available. So, the check against 0xFFFF is not working properly. I have been monitoring the linuxppc embedded list and there appears to be incompatible register sets for 1000Mbps PHYs as well. Perhaps we need to make the detection of 1000Mbps PHY included optionally based on a CONFIG_ macro and 1000MBps PHY boards define that variable. I have no use for extra code. Best regards, Tolunay

I know that this is probably in the 'infra-red' region of the 'visible' U-boot spectrum but I managed to get my root file system runnning from a RAM disk held in RAM but the same RAM disk placed in FLASH failed. For example if I tftpboot my kernel to RAM, tftpboot my RAMDISK to RAM and then issue bootm 30300000 30500000 it mounts an ext2 file system, calls init and the world is a good place to be! (-28 != 32768) I think this might be related to CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM_SIZE=4096. But haven't had a chance to check it out. Finally got access to hardware again. So here's the full o/p from my ARM target. Still trying to get a root file system on a RAM disk. Without any success. Here's o/p from my booting.... Again apologies if its in-appropriate. I'm absolutely stuck! The RAM disk is programmed into FLASH at 0x8200000. The kernel is tftpeed to RAM at 0x30300000 my bootargs are root=/dev/ram A couple of questions before I'm roasted....... -> Do I need CONFIG_SETUP_MEMORY_TAGS enabled -> Do I need CONFIG_INITRD_TAG enabled -> Should CONFIG_DEVFS_FS be enabled in kernel? -> Should CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT be enabled in kernel -> When running mkimage for RAM disk what relevance are load and entry addresses. My 'Karim Yaghmour' book says not needed. -> Do I need to specify 'initrd=' -> Do I need to specify 'initrd_start=' Sorry for appearing dumb but there are so many combinations...... and I have already tried so many my head is spinning. It is a very limited port from a functional point of view and we will continue to add functionality to it but anyway we made some serious progess. Wolfgang, The attachment seems to be for 8260 processor. What about MPC855T? Is it the same? Or what do I have to do to access this parameter? Hi I'm trying to port the U-Boot to Marvell board with MIPS (rm7000) I am using a cross compiler mips64-elf. I'm trying to compile the purpule_config and I have some compilation problems, when I'm using the cpu/mips/config flag -mabicalls I get a lot of warnings: c1: warning: -G is incompatible with PIC code which is the default ......... and an LD error: mips64-elf-ld: common/main.o: linking PIC files with non-PIC files Bad value: failed to merge target specific data of file common/main.o When I remove the -mabicalls flag, the compilation pass, and the LD fail again on different error: mips64-elf-ld: target elf32-tradbigmips not found The LD is looking for elf32-tradbigmips because in the LD script we define the output file to be: elf32-tradbigmips why do we use this definition and not elf32-bigmips?? and what is the difference between these two?? and why when I install my cross compiler I don't have support for this output format?? so I changed it the output format to elf32-bigmips then I'm getting this LD error: : undefined reference to `_GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_' I know it is because I don't have this define in the linker script, and I guess the elf32-tradbigmips has this definition. Hi Frank, I just made the sc520_cdp board and the u-boot.bin file size is 947911360 bytes. That's right, 947 MB. has anyone made this board lately and why is it producing such a large .bin file.
