(1) I looked back at my errors and I've begun to realise that an Error: a is the correct answer whenever you issue a 'go' to the kernel address as r0/r1 have no chance of being setup correctly i.e. I'm using 'go' as my bootloader.So with that in mind the bootm is the correct approach. I tried the suggestion from Gerrit and it didn't work fully. However, I don't get the register dump anymore so the load and entry addresses of 0x00000000 certainly has an effect on something. But in the end it just resets to U-boot. [U-Boot-Users] A3000 Linux restart

I'm having a problem with U-Boot 1.0.2, built from the cvs tarball dated 12 Feb. The target is the Artis SBC-A3000, based on the MPC8245. U-Boot starts and runs fine, and can boot Linux successfully. However, if I issue the command "shutdown -r now" under Linux, a problem with the serial port occurs soon after U-Boot restarts: right after "I2C" is printed, gibberish appears on the screen, as if the baud rate had suddenly changed. The processor is evidently still running at this point, as "bootcmd" takes effect and once the kernel re-initializes the UART, the serial port is back to normal. This problem occurs only when restarting Linux--it does not happen when restarting U-Boot or after pressing the reset button on the board. The customized version of PPCBoot 1.1.5 that was provided with the board does not exhibit this behavior. Is this an issue with U-Boot, or is there something in the Linux kernel (modified MontaVista 2.4.19) that could be the cause?

Hi, all, I am trying to use u-boot on my ixp425 based board. But it seems not working properly. I got the u-boot-1.0.0. And make clean, make ixdp425_config , and make. The 1st first time there is a "Soft FP" issue. After I changed cpu/ixp/config.mk as following " PLATFORM_RELFLAGS += -mhard-float #Change -msoft-float to -mhard-float" The compile was OK and I got u-boot.bin. But after I burn into flash, I can see nothing from serial port. I am sure my serial port works fine and burn into flash correctly (because I have another pre-compiled u-boot.bin onhand, that one can work). What could be the problem in the configuration or something else? Regards & Thanks

hi friends, on my MPC8270 based board i will use the new Silicon Motion SM501 companion chip. This chip will be supported by the PCI bridge of the ppc. The SM501 is the only target on the pci bus. Now i dont know exactly how to initialize pci in u-boot. By reading the sources (Boards: ATC, PM826) i found in the config files the settings "CONFIG_PCI", "CONFIG_PCI_PNP", "CFG_PCI_MSTR_IO_BUS". In the board files i found the "pci_mpc8250_init(&hose)" function. Is that really all what i have to do for initializing pci?? My embedded OS is Linux. Are there any guides or sources which helps my to write a ppc device driver for my pci graphic controller? Hi all, im working in an embedded Project ( with AMD SC520) and we wonna use the u-boot as Bios/Bootlader. I tried to compile the sources from sourceforge.net but failed because the sc520_spunk and sc520_cdp sources where missing an Headerfile <ssi.h> its not in the sourceforge package. Hi , I have tried out the latest version (1.3) of the cfi flash driver on our new quantum board. It worked first time. Our board is configured as follows: 2 x 16 bit AM29LV640MU or 2 x 16 bit AM29LV6401_D Well done Brad! You have saved the effort of having to write and debug my own custom flash driver for this board. Just one point the CFG_USE_BUFFERED_WRITE option does not work on our boards. I think I've seen this question posted before but I haven't been able to find it. Is there a way to extract the vmlinux.gz image from a U-Boot multi-image? I think it's something like this but I'm guessing I need the original vmlinux.gz size - # strip the wrapper dd if=uImage.initrd bs=76 skip=1 of=uImage_initrd.stripped # extract the gzipped kernel dd if=uImage_initrd.stripped of=vmlinux.gz bs=??? count=??? skip=??? I'm trying to retrieve a U-Boot multi-image from a Linux MTD flash partition. I'm not sure, without knowing the file size of the image there, how to make sure I retrieve the image alone and not the entire partition. [U-Boot-Users] ELDK 2.1.0 Install

I've just setup a new P4 2600 system at work for my workstation. I have also just done a complete install of "Fedora" on it. Tons of good stuff (and I'm one who likes a leaner faster install) but this becomes productive very quickly! Now the problem: Installing ELDK 2.1.0 and I get no error message but nothing is installed except the initial "bin, usr and a very bare var" in the install directory (/opt/eldk). NOTE that this is for ARM processors. Now my thing is porting u-boot and the kernel to our target boards, I've done that for an MPC860 board, an MPC866 board and now this attempt is for an arm-based board (PXA255 to be precise). I got our resident guru and had him take a look at what was happening and with a couple of installs using strace with a couple of parameters to generate an output file and I'm not sure what else he came to the conclusion that the rpm in the install was giving us grief. After numerous attempts using the rpm on the host machine he got some stuff in place but this is NOT the way to get it all installed in any reasonable time frame. So, has anyone done an install of ELDK 2.1.0 on a Fedora host? I will need to install ELDK for PPC targets as well and the problem MAY be the same there, but for now the ARM version is very broken (in the rpm tool specifically). I'd appreciate any input! On our upcoming 440GX board (currently being fabbed), of course one of the first things I will attempt to do, after a successful smoke test is to try to blink some LEDs. If I can do that, then probably my code path to the flash is OK, etc. Problem is: GPIO0_OR, where I write my LEDs, is memory mapped, but the pin control which allows one to specify that a given GPIO pin is marked for output is a DCR. hi all, i've got a set of patches i've been working on to support a new platform. it's still a work-in-progress, but a couple of issues have come up that i'd like to ask for input on. this platform has an LCD panel and a backlight. both are controllable to a certain extent. i'd like to add a set of new commands to support the features: bkon backlight on bkoff backlight off bkset percent set backlight brightness to "percent" of max lcdon turn lcd on lcdoff turn lcd off lcdtst draw a test pattern on the lcd lcddraw x0 y0 x1 y1 r g b draw a rectangle on the lcd, scaling R/G/B values to hardware supported (ie, the cmd values are in 0-255, but the hardware only does RGB565 ... causes "255" to be mapped accordingly) and accompanying cmd_lcd.c, and cmd_bklite.c files. of course, i could re-work this to be more like bk {on,off,set percent} lcd {on,off,tst,draw x0 y0 x1 y1 r g b} to not take up so many command values... any thoughts? -josh

[U-Boot-Users] Problems with Hello_world example

Hi all, we're using u-boot in a DBPXA250 based platform. We've burnt u-boot in Flash memory and successed to communicate with it using hyperterminal or minicom. Then we've loaded hello_world.bin in 0x00040004 and typed in u-boot's prompt: go 40004 Hello world The result is: ## Starting application at 0x00040004 ... 03 3 3 ## Application terminated, rc = 0x0 (Note that "3 ## Application terminated, rc = 0x0" is printed when we hit any key). My doubts are: When this example is compiled, we are using the binary file that is created but, is this binary file created for our platform or does this example only work with some specific architectures?? Should it work correctly in our DBPXA250 bassed platform?? The u-boot's messages say that stdin, stdout and stderr are in the serial port (because we aren't initializating the LCD). The hello_world example program is printing messages using the printf() function and we suppose that when we compile for our system, the printf() function is trying to print those messages through the stdout of our system (that in this case is the serial port, isn't it??). So why can't we see the messages that is printing the Hello_world application thought serial line??? Why are we only seeing those numbers (03 3 3)??? It can't be a baudrate problem, can it??
