Just after posting the message "Interrupt management under PPC4xx platform", I noticed the thread "405Gpr timer interrupt" describing the same problem I encountered with the Ethernet interface (I work with the 405EP eval. board). I think it is due to the incorrect interrupt management, too. For this reason, and since this is my first experience with U-Boot, I posted the message "Interrupt management under PPC4xx platform" http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=1968232&forum_id=128…. We are planning to use the PPC440 but, I wan't to use floating point calculations on a PPC440, since this processor has no FPU, it not as easy I guess? - What do I need to do floating point calculations? - Does the GNU compiler support this feature? - Can I find documentation upon the power (CPU Cycles) needed to do a single 'add' or 'multiply'? Hi there, I think would should realy reset the MPC8xx's internal RTC when calling "date reset" or "rtc_reset" instead of "nothing to do". Please find and consider the attached patch. Background: I have seen it several times, that the MPC8xx's internal RTC contains an invalid date, e.g. negative times (caused by no or low battery). That might result in dates before 1970-01-01 under Linux and that in turn confuses timeouts. I've seen that udhcpc (from busybox) hangs in such cases! For that reason u-boot should check for valid dates and do a rtc_reset() if nessesary. Hi. I am working on a custom board with a mpc860. First I started my target with NFS as rootfilesystem. It works fine. Now I want to use Initrd to start. It works fine. But I can't mount NFS -> timeout error . For my initrd I use the ram image from Denx. Any known problem in "mount" from busybox ? Any ideas ? Thanks. Chris

I have some questions about the interrupt management under the PPC4xx platform (I'm working with the 405EP evaluation board). 1) At the beginning of the boot code, the EVPR is cleared. The OpenBIOS, whose boot code is substantally the same, sets the EVPR to 0xFFF80000, that is the start address of the Flash. Why do they use such a different approach? 2) I don't understand how the code of vectors is relocated by the trap_init function. Once the whole code is copied from Flash to SDRAM by the relocate_code function, in my understanding the code of vectors is copied again from the end of SDRAM to the start of SDRAM by trap_init. Here r9 is the target address and it set to 0x2100. So why do the interrupt_init function sets the EVPR to 0? Many thanks in advance. llandre

Hello, I've donwloaded the ELF file with the PowerTAP pro, everything works fine. The ELF File directs the PowerTAP download to 0xFFFx.xxxx (Flash Memory) Is there a possibility to Compile and Link the code in a way the code can run from SDRAM? Thx Roel

Hi, I got a same problem with release 0.3.0. However, if I use the use same toolchain to compile the 0.2.0 version, it is ok. My compiler version is 2.95.3 (montaVisita). I just modify the "CROSS-COMPILER" parameter. Do I need to change any other parameters ? The tools subdirectory builds tools that run on your host computer that are used for building various u-boot related images. You need gcc on your host to accomplish this. It doesn't look like you have the native "development toolset" installed. Type which gcc and it will probably tell you that it cannot find gcc. The format is documented in the ld manual distributed with binutils. RedHat have a version onlie at http://sources.redhat.com/binutils/docs-2.12/ The documentation on the linker scipts is quite hard to digest, but it is possible, given enough patience. Hi Can anyone explain to me how to modify/use the u-boot.lds file? I've had to make changes start.S in order to some board specific initializations etc, however if my changes become to "large" u-boot fails to compile. After reading the README I have seen that if changes are made to the u-boot source then u-boot.lds will have to be modified. On looking at this file I am clueless regarding which changes will be required, so any advice would be appreciated. Regards Flavio Pereira

I want to port U-boot to my custom Pentium 2 board, so I do a test compile of sc520_cdp config first, but can not pass when linking. Hi, I download the U-boot from web. I tried to use it in MPC8266ADS, but it is failed. I found that the bootloader hangs in the function "board_init_f" when it running in "init sequence". It successes to pass the "checkboard" function (i see it in COM port). After that, it hangs. I do not change any code and just compile and program the "u-boot" file in flash memory at "0xfff00000". Is there any hardware setup should be done ? I use the default setting to test. Do I need to change the setting ? My confusion came from the following line in the Makefile: -> rm -f u-boot u-boot.bin u-boot.elf u-boot.srec u-boot.map System.map u-boot.elf <- this element did me expect a .ELF file as output of the linker. Hi! We discovered a problem with the U-Boot DHCP client using the Windows 2000 DHCP Server. We have to use the Windows 2000 DHCP Server upon customer request! The problem occurs when the IP-address of the DHCP-server is not equal to the IP-address of the TFTP-server. In the REQUEST-packet (client->server), the client uses the IP-address from the bootp-header (bp->siaddr - IP address of next bootstrap server) in the ServerID option (#54). This seems to be wrong (the Windows 2000 server doesn't respond with an ACK-packet)! The client has to use the IP-address sent by the server in the ServerID option from the OFFER-packet (server->client). Please find attached a patch with our changes. This code runs without problems against the Windows 2000 DHCP-server and the Linux (Suse 8.0) DHCP-server. Any comments/remarks? Anybody against commiting? I have just checkouted the u-boot source code from CVS, and: (use arm-linux-gcc 2.95.3) make lubbock_config make then I use JFlash(windows) to install u-boot.bin in my lubbock(pxa250) board, and I use the HyperTerminal as the console tools for inter-action. after power on, I can get the prompt, but if I try to copy RAM data to Flash like: cp 0xa0008000 0x04000000 1024 u-boot complain that flash not erased, but even I use erase bank 2 to erase the whole bank flash, when I use md 0x04000000 to see the value in flash bank 2, I found that the value is same as old, How can I solve this problem, please help me. Hi there, when first accessing an JFFS2 partition from u-boot (e.g. ls) I see a Scanning JFFS2 FS: ..... done That takes over one second. Is that needed? What for? I am just experimenting with an JFFS2 partition with NO compression. That makes my boot process faster, since the kernel and the FPGA data are stored on that partition. Thanks, Steven

Hi All, thanx all for ur kind help...the problem was neither due to Memory Mapping nor CRC check... I tried the same old routine method of debugging, which is the best... puts( ).. [U-Boot-Users] pxa suspend/resume?

I am using u-boot for my custom PXA250 board and am in the process of trying to get the board to use the power management suspend/resume feature in linux. I am able to put the cpu into suspend mode, but I can never get it to wake-up. I am under the impression that it is the bootloader that needs to handle the wake-up and pass control back to linux. Has anyone been able to add resume support into u-boot for a PXA? Michael

Hi, this is somewhat offtopic, but I know no better place to ask. I'm trying to make the cs8900 ethernet chip on the Cogent CSB226 work with u-boot and Linux. The chip is mapped to 0x08000000 / CS2 and it is connected in I/O mapped mode. However, I do not see anything usefull in u-boot. This is how the port area looks after power on: uboot> md.w 0x08000000 10 (1) (2) (3) 08000000: 0000 a1ff 0000 a1ff 0009 a1ff 0000 a1ff ................ 08000010: 0000 a1ff 3136 a1ff 00d6 a1ff 00d6 a1ff ....61.......... I would have expected the cs8900's magic number (0x0e62 00[03|05]) in the data registers (2),(3). However, when I write 0 to the Packet Page Pointer Port (1) to select register 0: uboot> md.w 0x08000000 10 08000000: 0000 a1ff 0000 a1ff 3109 a1ff 0000 a1ff .........1...... 08000010: 0000 a1ff 3136 a1ff 00d6 a1ff 00d6 a1ff ....61.......... this is still not what I would have expected.
