I'm trying to modify u-boot image for IBM Walnut ref. board to use in the other system(ppc405 core) but the system has only bootrom of size 128KB, while walnut has 512KB. the modification i have tried until now is as follows... ========================================================= - modified TEXT_BASE in board/walnut405/config.mk u-boot.bin is configured as 0000'0000 ~ 0002'B68B : u-boot source data 0002'B68C ~ 0007'FFFB : empty space (filled with FF) 0007'FFFC ~ 0007'FFFF : reset vector walnut Flash memory map : FFF8'0000 ~ FFFF'FFFF (512KB) porting system bootrom memory map : FFFE'0000 ~ FFFF'FFFF(128KB) the size of empty space = max 0x0005'4971 possible to reduce, so change in board/walnut405/config.mk, TEXT_BASE = 0xFFF8'0000 + 0x0005'4971 = 0xFFFD'4971 the result size of u-boot.bin = 173KB or so ... need to be reduced more. - disable DBGFLAGS = -g, in u-boot_root/config.mk ============================================================ what other methods can you suggest to minimize the size of u-boot without hanging in u-boot operation ?? Comrades, I have compiled uboot for the PQ2VADS Motorola evaluation board and tried to flash it with a JTAG probe from GreenHills. Unfortunately their probe does not support the 8270 architecture today. Does BDI2000 support the ppc8270 JTAG chain architecture? If so , does someone have a configuration file for the PQ2VADS Motorola evaluation board? Best Regards // Matias

[U-Boot-Users] Can ethernet be disabled?

I'm porting u-boot to a custom PXA255 board. At present there is no network interface so I'm only interested in loading data over a serial port. Can I disable network support pre-compilation to cut down the size of u-boot? ie. Is there an equivalent of " #define CONFIG_LCD 0 " to disable network support.? [U-Boot-Users] Linux for PowerPC Embedded Systems HOWTO - Phoenix edition

Hi, as was noted on this list several times, the "Linux for PowerPC Embedded Systems HOWTO" is a resource too valuable to let it fade into oblivion while being de-facto unmaintained. In order to adapt its contents to recent activities, we imported the last version published by Boas Betzler into our TWiki collaboration platform[1] and are thus proud to announce the "Phoenix edition" of this valuable document. On our website, the document lives alongside our "DENX U-Boot and Linux Guide"[2] (DULG for short). As they both address the same field of computing, it might make sense to partition the contents of both more cleanly. At the moment they both use the same glossary at least. As some restructuring will be in order for the document to thrive in the TWiki community, none of the contents has been modified (apart from minor markup editing). Discussion of how to do the restructuring can also be done in the TWiki context itself[3]. If you never heard of "Wikis" before, [4] should be a good starting point for finding out. Hi all, I have a problem in fec_send() function of the fec.c driver for FEC on 852T processor. The PHY I have is LXT971 and the MDC clock I am running is at 2.5Mhz. 160 x 160 LCD interfaces through the LCD controller pins of the PXA255 processor. But this LCD has no built-in LCD controller. pxafb.c (from pxa patch)operates the LCD controller of the PXAxxx processor. The LCD controller interfaces directly to a variety of LCD panels that contain only panel drivers, not controllers. So I can change pxafb.h to support 160x160 LCD. 128 x 64 LCD interfaces through the GPIO pins. But this 128x64 LCD has built-in LCD controller(ks0108 or compatible). The ks0108 is a controller for small monochrome graphics displays. So, I need a display driver for Linux. Where can I get the display driver?. [U-Boot-Users] u-boot as a "legacybios" extension rom?

Hi, It seems U-boot has support for various flash types and jffs2, in contrast to for example GRUB, u-boot would make a perfect bootloader for embedded x86 modules ...and it does not necessarily have to replace the bios. Would it be do-able to build u-boot for x86 (without the bios emulation stuff) and then append it to a legacy pc bios in the form of an option rom ? I haven't gotten familiar with the code yet, (I've only build u-boot once to use on an xscale platform) so I'd just like to hear some opinions about this.... Thanks,
