I was trying to load linux-2.4.4 in FADS860T board using u-boot-1.0.0. I have settted environment variables like ipaddr,serverip,ethaddr,bootargs bootfile and saved the environment. Then,i typed tftpboot to download image from server. Then,i typed bootm to start the booting process. System is stucked by showing "Uncompressing Kernel Image ... OK" sequence of these events r given below.can u please suggest, what i need to do to come out from this. Thank you. Hi, here's a fairly lengthy patch against 0.4.8 that brings the memory layout of all supported ARM CPUs in line with the documentation. This has the positive side-effect of allowing U-Boot to actually run on PXA CPUs (the stock PXA implementation didn't set the start-address of the malloc pool at all!) The memory layout now more or less conforms to the standard as defined in the README (the absolute addresses are board-specific, of course). Since the stack and malloc-heap are now located below the U-Boot code, the TEXT_BASE of the supported ARM boards can be increased accordingly (for most (but not all) boards, the patch already does this). Memory layout example based on my PXA255 (TEXT_BASE = 0xA07E0000): 0xA079FF74 Monitor Stack (growing downwards) 0xA079FF80 Board Info Data and permanent copy of Global Data 0xA07A0000 Malloc Arena 0xA07E0000 RAM copy of Monitor Code ... optional: Frame Buffer 0xA07FFFFF [End of RAM] Since I only have access to PXA-based HW, I was only able to verify that U-Boot still *builds* for all supported ARMs; I have to rely on your help to see if it also *runs* correctly. CHANGELOG: Bring ARM memory layout in line with the documentation. Wolfgang: Please don't apply this patch until we have some feedback from the ARM maintainers. Hi there, the attached patch addresses two MII related issues: a) mii info <addr> ignored <addr> and always showed info for 32 PHYs b) The "Trick" mentioned in miiphy_info(): " * Trick: we are reading two 16 registers into a 32 bit variable * so we do a 16 read into the high order bits of the variable (big * endian, you know), shift it down 16 bits, and the read the rest." does obviously not work on little endian machines. * Patch by Steven Scholz, 20 Oct 2003 - "mii info <addr>" now only shows the info for PHY "addr" as the help message already suggests - Endian fix for miiphy_info() Thanks, Steven

Hi everybody, I'm in the process of writting PCMCIA support for WEPEP250 (boards/wepep250). Everything seems to be going smooth except one thing: When I add a debug function and then execute U-Boot command "pinit on" or "ide reset" U-boot hangs on me. I sometimes get "data abort", sometimes "invalid instruction" and sometimes nothing. Is there any limits with regards to U-Boot's size and by me putting too much inside U-boot's .text section and hitting some marker/border ? The situation: ident_cpy() function used in ide_ident() copies firmware, version, ident string from iop structure to dev_desc structure. Since CompactFlash firmware string and model number string are in big endian byte order I wanted to write ident_swap_cpy, but as I wrote the function, re-compiled U-boot, downloaded it and issued "ide reset" I got a hang. I also tried to put just two printf's inside ident_copy() - a hang again. ident_swap_cpy() worked fine when I compiled and ran it in my examples/ide.c file. Thanks, -- Best Regards, Leon.

[U-Boot-Users] Help with u-boot 0.4.0 and IBM ASH board

Good afternoon... I have an IBM ASH (NPe405h) board that I am trying to get U-Boot 0.4.0 running on. Ultimately, I'll port this over to our custom board that is very similar to the ASH, but I figured it would be better to start on a known platform. I downloaded the new 0.4.0 U-Boot and ran these two commands (after modifying the Makefile to run 'ppc_405-' instead of 'ppc_8xx'): make ASH405_config make all It flew through compile and link to produce the nice u-boot.srec. I put that in my tftpboot directory, telnet'd over to the abatron 2000, erased ASH flash and programmed this new image in there. The result is an immediate SystemError LED illumination. I then switched from Flash to SRAM (one of the dips on the ASH board) and reloaded. Running from SRAM produces a program exception and jump to 0x700 almost right off the bat. I am running out of ideas on how to get U-boot and my ash board to cooperate. Has anyone else that has tried this had the same problems? Regards, Eric (eric.wetterlind(a)goodrich.com)

Yuli, I have a PQ2FADS_VR ( ppc8275 ) board from motorola which has a 66000000 Hz clock. Is it worthwhile to insert this anomaly to the u-boot code? I have done changes in MPC8260ADS.h file in order to make it run for me. Differences between 8260 and 8270 do not justify creating a separate CPU directory. In fact, all the differences result in some 10-20 lines of code, so look at cpu/mpc8260. Use `grep' to find HiP7 and you'll see the changes I made to support 8270/75/80. The same is true for PQ2FADS. I ported U-Boot to this board but since it's very similar to older MPC8260ADS I modified existing port to support all Motorola evaluation boards (MPC8260ADS/MPC8266ADS/PQ2FADS). Some differences are handled by #ifdefs. Cloning an existing port and changing ten lines to support new board as it's done in many cases creates maintenance nightmare. So the right place to look is board/mpc8260ads. BTW, I think it's mentioned in README. [U-Boot-Users] Passing clocks to Linux (ARM)?

Hi, Looking at the kernel source for AT91RM9200 cpus shows that the clocks for processor and bus are hardcoded. So for instance baudrate generator is programmed with some hardcoded value. I know that MPC8xx passes the clock values (and much more) from U-Boot to the Kernel. Has someone done that for ARM cpus? Is there a plan to extend bd_t structure for ARM as it is for PPC? Hi, Works very fine on a PQ2FADS-VR board. Going to port it further to a custom board we are developing. What shall I do with the changes/modifications we are doing for our custom board? Shall I send the ported U-boot to you Wolfgang? I have a GPL splinter in my mind ... The 5910 for all practically purposes is the 1510. I have seen a doc somewhere, not sure if I captured it or not. Basically, the difference is the way the parts are tested and sorted. The 1510 parts are speed rated, and you can get up to a 168MHx part. The 5910 parts are not and its only guaranteed up to 150MHz, but its likely many will run at 168. The 1510 also "claims" support for some functionality which the 5910 will not admit to having. The issue there is support and validation. 5910 parts will not be validated for everything a 1510 will be. I use a mix of both types of chips on development boards. I use their u-boot images interchangeably....I have set my timings back to 150MHz as the thing I've been working on will get parts stamped as 5910 not 1510. Dear all, I am using u-boot-0.4.8 to boot my Intel Xscale PXA263 M/B. After boot, I can see the console out but it hang at common/lists.c line 36. The calloc(size,num) that defined as malloc(size*num). I have no idea to debug it. Could somebody give me a hint? Thanks. Best regards, Jacob
