I was trying to load linux-2.4.4 in FADS860T board using u-boot-1.0.0. I have settted environment variables like ipaddr,serverip,ethaddr,bootargs bootfile and saved the environment. Then,i typed tftpboot to download image from server. Then,i typed bootm to start the booting process. System is stucked by showing "Uncompressing Kernel Image ... OK" sequence of these events r given below.can u please suggest, what i need to do to come out from this. Thank you. Hi, here's a fairly lengthy patch against 0.4.8 that brings the memory layout of all supported ARM CPUs in line with the documentation. This has the positive side-effect of allowing U-Boot to actually run on PXA CPUs (the stock PXA implementation didn't set the start-address of the malloc pool at all!) The memory layout now more or less conforms to the standard as defined in the README (the absolute addresses are board-specific, of course). Since the stack and malloc-heap are now located below the U-Boot code, the TEXT_BASE of the supported ARM boards can be increased accordingly (for most (but not all) boards, the patch already does this). Memory layout example based on my PXA255 (TEXT_BASE = 0xA07E0000): 0xA079FF74 Monitor Stack (growing downwards) 0xA079FF80 Board Info Data and permanent copy of Global Data 0xA07A0000 Malloc Arena 0xA07E0000 RAM copy of Monitor Code ... optional: Frame Buffer 0xA07FFFFF [End of RAM] Since I only have access to PXA-based HW, I was only able to verify that U-Boot still *builds* for all supported ARMs; I have to rely on your help to see if it also *runs* correctly. CHANGELOG: Bring ARM memory layout in line with the documentation. Wolfgang: Please don't apply this patch until we have some feedback from the ARM maintainers. Hi there, the attached patch addresses two MII related issues: a) mii info <addr> ignored <addr> and always showed info for 32 PHYs b) The "Trick" mentioned in miiphy_info(): " * Trick: we are reading two 16 registers into a 32 bit variable * so we do a 16 read into the high order bits of the variable (big * endian, you know), shift it down 16 bits, and the read the rest." does obviously not work on little endian machines. * Patch by Steven Scholz, 20 Oct 2003 - "mii info <addr>" now only shows the info for PHY "addr" as the help message already suggests - Endian fix for miiphy_info() Thanks, Steven

Hi everybody, I'm in the process of writting PCMCIA support for WEPEP250 (boards/wepep250). Everything seems to be going smooth except one thing: When I add a debug function and then execute U-Boot command "pinit on" or "ide reset" U-boot hangs on me. I sometimes get "data abort", sometimes "invalid instruction" and sometimes nothing. Is there any limits with regards to U-Boot's size and by me putting too much inside U-boot's .text section and hitting some marker/border ? The situation: ident_cpy() function used in ide_ident() copies firmware, version, ident string from iop structure to dev_desc structure. Since CompactFlash firmware string and model number string are in big endian byte order I wanted to write ident_swap_cpy, but as I wrote the function, re-compiled U-boot, downloaded it and issued "ide reset" I got a hang. I also tried to put just two printf's inside ident_copy() - a hang again. ident_swap_cpy() worked fine when I compiled and ran it in my examples/ide.c file. Thanks, -- Best Regards, Leon.

[U-Boot-Users] Help with u-boot 0.4.0 and IBM ASH board

Good afternoon... I have an IBM ASH (NPe405h) board that I am trying to get U-Boot 0.4.0 running on. Ultimately, I'll port this over to our custom board that is very similar to the ASH, but I figured it would be better to start on a known platform. I downloaded the new 0.4.0 U-Boot and ran these two commands (after modifying the Makefile to run 'ppc_405-' instead of 'ppc_8xx'): make ASH405_config make all It flew through compile and link to produce the nice u-boot.srec. I put that in my tftpboot directory, telnet'd over to the abatron 2000, erased ASH flash and programmed this new image in there. The result is an immediate SystemError LED illumination. I then switched from Flash to SRAM (one of the dips on the ASH board) and reloaded. Running from SRAM produces a program exception and jump to 0x700 almost right off the bat. I am running out of ideas on how to get U-boot and my ash board to cooperate. Has anyone else that has tried this had the same problems? Regards, Eric (eric.wetterlind(a)goodrich.com)

Yuli, I have a PQ2FADS_VR ( ppc8275 ) board from motorola which has a 66000000 Hz clock. Is it worthwhile to insert this anomaly to the u-boot code? I have done changes in MPC8260ADS.h file in order to make it run for me. I ported U-Boot to this board but since it's very similar to older MPC8260ADS I modified existing port to support all Motorola evaluation boards (MPC8260ADS/MPC8266ADS/PQ2FADS). Some differences are handled by #ifdefs. Cloning an existing port and changing ten lines to support new board as it's done in many cases creates maintenance nightmare. So the right place to look is board/mpc8260ads. BTW, I think it's mentioned in README. [U-Boot-Users] Passing clocks to Linux (ARM)?

Hi, Looking at the kernel source for AT91RM9200 cpus shows that the clocks for processor and bus are hardcoded. So for instance baudrate generator is programmed with some hardcoded value. I know that MPC8xx passes the clock values (and much more) from U-Boot to the Kernel. Has someone done that for ARM cpus? Is there a plan to extend bd_t structure for ARM as it is for PPC? The 5910 for all practically purposes is the 1510. I have seen a doc somewhere, not sure if I captured it or not. Basically, the difference is the way the parts are tested and sorted. The 1510 parts are speed rated, and you can get up to a 168MHx part. The 5910 parts are not and its only guaranteed up to 150MHz, but its likely many will run at 168. The 1510 also "claims" support for some functionality which the 5910 will not admit to having. The issue there is support and validation. 5910 parts will not be validated for everything a 1510 will be. I use a mix of both types of chips on development boards. I use their u-boot images interchangeably....I have set my timings back to 150MHz as the thing I've been working on will get parts stamped as 5910 not 1510. There are a few processors which actually can "boot" from NAND. The OMAP161x is one such processor. Hi, I have the u-boot running normally on my board. I downloaded the default hello_world.bin onto the board at memory location 40004. I can see the data there is correct as it is the same as my .bin file. However, when I type "=> go 40004 Hello World! Hi, I've found unexpected code inside of smc_phy_configure() in file drivers/smc91111.c: /* Enable PHY Interrupts (for register 18) */ /* Interrupts listed here are disabled */ smc_write_phy_register (PHY_INT_REG, 0xffff); PHY_INT_REG is an read only register (all bits). So I don't understand the write access -- Why? Can anybody explain this step? I think the corregt register have to be PHY_MASK_REG (register 19), which correspond to PHY_INT_REG (register 18) as interrupt mask. Looks like I screwed up the call sequence in lib_nios/board.c ... the code is calling getenv("ethaddr") prior to env_init() -- must have been a late night ;-) The fields that depend on an initialized environment should be initialized _after_ calling the routines in init_sequence ... which includes env_init(). Try moving bi_ip_addr and bi_enetaddr below the init_sequence loop. I'm out-of-office so I can't work on a patch for a few days. If the changes work, please submit a patch to Wolfgang -- or we can work together off-line. Regards, --Scott

Hello u-boot-users, First a bit of background, I am using a custom processor board (similar to the ep8260) which has u-boot-0.4.0 running very nicely on it. The board has two ethernet interfaces which provide functionality like network address translation etc. Both interfaces are configured correctly, I know this as I have been using fcc2 and have only recently enabled fcc1 which is now the main port for the system. Now that both interfaces are configured I find that I can only use fcc1 for activities such as tftp etc. I have configured different eth addresses for both ports but I can't seem to get the system to use fcc2 rather than fcc1.The README does state that "u-boot is capable of automatic selection of an interface when needed", but I've not had much luck finding more information. Hi Rick et al., as I mentioned before U-Boot is running on our AT91RM9200 based board. I went down the path ATMEL was suggesting. They use this memory map on their eval board AT91RM9200DK: 24k Boot Image 32KB free 8KB Environment 64KB gzipped U-Boot image The "Boot image" is a small (11k) piece of code which initialises clocks, flash, SDRAM and serial port. Then it decompresses the "gzipped U-Boot image" into SDRAM and jumps to it. The reason for that seems to be: > We chose, to put a compressed boot due to memory mapping constraints. > We need to keep a sector for environment variables the 8Kbyte-size sector is > enough. They probably overlooked that you could embedded the environment into U-Boot. By using a correct u-boot.lds linker file one can reserve an 8Kbyte-size sector in the middle of U-Boot. So instead one could use this memory map: 56KB U-Boot 8KB Environment 64KB U-Boot using the same 128KB of flash. Since the CPU was setup by the bootloader there's no init and relocation code for the AT91RM9200 in U-Boot (yet). So I spend a day, "wrote" some init and relocation code and now U-Boot is starting directly from flash and relocates itself to RAM. No Preboot needed. Nor gzipped image of U-Boot. I would like to change the official U-Boot code for the AT91RM9200 and AT91RM9200DK so that it can be used without the need of another bootloader. This way it would be a lot easier for people to port U-Boot to their hardware. What do you think? Anyone interessted? I'd love to hear suggestion, where to put specific parts of the init code. Other ARM cpus use a board specific memsetup.S file. For an AT91RM9200 we have to setup more than just the SDRAM. Should we put all the init code into cpu/at91rm9200/{start.S} and use CONFIG_ and CFG_? Or should every AT91 based board copy the same code again and again into thier own subdirectory? Hi Scott and all other NIOS people, today I've successfully brought up and running the U-Boot NIOS port on a Stratix Development Kit (DK-1S10). Thanks to Scott -- was (is) a great work. The preconfigured Cyclone Edition was running and startup without critical problems, because as far as I know the Stratix edition is 100% equal to Cyclone except the FPGA. But now, I can't setup my network environment in expected way. The u-boot environment vars "ethaddr", "iptable", "netmask", and "serverip" are correct in flash, but bdinfo shows me the default values (compiled in) -- Why ? (logfile see attachment) Has anybody similar problems on Cyclone, or is it a Stratix problem (may be an useless question) ? Where can I found the setup flow from saved environment to bdi structure inside the u-boot source code? I want to check up the settings step by step. Ah: I'm using u-boot cvs snaphot date 20031024. Hello there, I'm trying to get U-Boot running on a Motorola MBX821-001 board. But up to now i couldn't manage it. After downloading U-Boot and flashing it (according to a ml thread of ppcboot-users: http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/4205/2001/12/0/7301427/ ) the MBX Board doesn't do anything but output wired characters on serial console. I've read the docs/README.MBX but it doesen't help. Has anyone successfully got U-Boot (or PPCboot) running on a MPC821 (or better on MBX821-001)?? Any hints or suggestions? Thanks in advance. I'm porting U-Boot to the WindRiver MDP8xx PRO board.Now I think I should run the U-Boot on my board in the simpliest way, so I just configed the necessary devices like FLASH ,DRAM . I can provide anything I have ,and thank you very very much .The include/configs/windriver.h and board/windrive/windriver.c have been included in the attachment.The MDP8xx PRO UM is too large to be attatched here.

I've used a Lite5200 (Version 2 : 64MB SDRAM, 16 MB FLASH) and I try to use U-Boot on It. I worked for now with a WireTAP JTAG debugger. I've flashed the latest code found in CVS tree and compile it with ppc_8xx. When I Reset (hard or soft reset) the cpu, the U-Boot doesn't work at all (I didn't see anything on the console). But when I use the debugger to reset the CPU and start the code in FLASH, U-boot works fine. The board has the default RESET configuration (Boot High, etc.). In the same way, when I flash the MOTOROLA DBBUG monitor on the board and RESET, it works. Can you help me ? Thanks

Hello, I just found this list, so please bear with me if my questions are basic. I'd like to use the 440GX (or 440GP) so I got the ELDK and U-Boot 0.4. The ELDK doesn't specifically say that it supports the 440 series, do you know if anyone has been successfuly in building 440 binaries using ELDK? Also, I've never used U-Boot before, but I'm *assuming* that once I get U-Boot running on my board, I can just load up the application built with ELDK (assuming of course the it can build 440 compatible binaries) and it should work? Am I completely missing something here? Intially, I just want to get a simple "hello world" program working (ie, not attempting to boot Linux yet) Thanks very much for your time! Sri

[U-Boot-Users] Multi-file problem

Hi, I found a problem with Mutli-file use of mkimage (using "-T multi") and fixed in my old u-boot-0.4.0 but my fix seemed to filter through too many files when I tried to do it (more correctly) on the cvs tree. Here's the problem (using 21-Oct-03 cvs files): When this address in cmd_bootm.c:1122 inside print_image_hdr() (is caculated: ulong *len_ptr = (ulong *)((ulong)hdr + sizeof(image_header_t)); it points to memory that wasn't copied back on cmd_bootm.c:174: memmove (&header, (char *)addr, sizeof(image_header_t)); because len_ptr points to the address header[1] and the memmove only moved header[0]. So I changed line 140 to: image_header_t header[2]; /* enough room for multi-image's size bytes too */ and all occurances of memmove (&header... from: memmove (&header, (char *)addr, sizeof(image_header_t)); to: memmove (&header, (char *)addr, sizeof(header)); But cmd_autoscript.c,common_util.c, armlinux.c uses &header and I'm not sure if this is the right fix. Maybe someone who knows this stuff can give me some direction. Thanks much. Rick

Hi there, my new board using Atmel's AT91RM9200 is booting now straight up to the bash! But I noticed that the cache is _not_ enabled while U-Boot is running. That makes tftp und bootm very slow indeed. Now, enabling and disabling icache by accessing CP15, Reg 1 using a BDI2000 works fine. The speed up is remarkable. But the icache command does not work as I woud ecpect: MulitIO> icache p15/c1 is = c000007c Instruction Cache is OFF MulitIO> icache on icache_enable(145) p15/c1 is = c000007c write c000107c to p15/c1 p15/c1 is = 0000617c p15/c1 is = 0000617c Instruction Cache is OFF Hmm. So instead of just setting Bit 12 three other bits are set. Is someone using icache on ARM systems? Rick, I had the exact same problem when using LAN91C111 on the Nios DK-1C20 board (same status & incorrect length). You may need to define CONFIG_SMC_USE_32_BIT. If your bus interface to the chip is 32-bits, a full 32-bit read might be occuring when the data register is read. This throws away the second 16-bit word of the packet buffer (which is the packet length) -- so you end up skipping every other set of 2-bytes after reading the incorrect length. [U-Boot-Users] Successful Port to PrPMC800

Hello, I've successfully ported U-Boot to the Motorola PrPMC800. Support for FLASH, PCI, IDE and networking have bee successfully enabled. It has been in use now for several weeks in a stable form. I do have one lingering problem of not being able to turn on the L1 and L2 data caches. Doing so apparently causes the system to hang. Unfortunately I don't have a BDI2000 setup for this board to better debug the problem. I used just a good ol' console and plenty of printf statements to do the port. I can't give a specific time for when I will have the port submitted for a future release of U-Boot. But I will do it. I'd like to fix my cache problem first and I have to finish the rest of the project for which U-Boot is just one part. And that may be awhile. Regards, Mark. I don't have the Motorola hardware yet ( delivery is six to eight weeks! ) but it is the intended hardware for the project I'm working on. I do have the Force Computer hardware right now. Hi there, I am trying to configure an Altera FPGA using the so called "passive serial interface". Basicly it follows the scheme "clk low, data out, clock high". I get arounf 50kHz using an AT91RM9200 running at 51MHz (core @ 171MHz). Could someone give me a hint how to optimize stuff like this for speed? The Ethernet Chip on my board is SMSC LAN91C113,the driver I used is smc91111.c. I've defined CONFIG_DRIVER_SMC91111,undefined xxx_USE_32_BIT undefined xxxx_EXT_PHY. When u-boot runs up, I try to ping my host from u-boot,but the sniffer on my host cannot catch any hardware packet,but my host sends ARP REPLY packet to my board. and the sended packet is captured by sniffer.Unfortunitly,board does'nt seem to have received right packet.I've enabled ET_DEBUG,It prints: RCV: STATUS 42 LENGTH 8. AND LEDA & LEDB both lights! What is the reason? Can you give me some ideas? Thanks a lot! Ricky

Hi, I tried to flash the u-boot.bin file to 0xff900000 and 0xff800000 but I cant get anything on the console ... am I missing some steps? I made the following steps: 1. Edited the MPC8260ADS.h file in order to set CFG_PQ2FADS as the target board ... 2. make MPC8260ADS_config 3. make clean 4. make all 5. Flashed area 0xff900000 and restarted the board No output on the console ... 6. Flashed area 0xff800000 and restarted the board No output on the console ... Any ideas? Hi all, I am working on mpc8245 based board. I have compiled the ppcboot with 64MB ram and its working fine and linux is ported successfully. Hi all, I have problems with the Bringup of a custom MPC8280 board and I assume that SDRAM could be the reason. When performing memory tests on the complete SDRAM with the test routines included with u-boot 0.4.5, everything is working fine. Also, u-boot is running without problems. But when booting a (known to work) linux kernel (2.4.18, MontaVista 3.0), I get exceptions after decompressing the kernel (alignment, 0x600) and when executing the initial scripts (program, 0x700). So I would like to perform more sophisticated SDRAM tests with u-boot, including burst tests. Is there anybody who has done this before? Any hints are appreciated. I am working on an MPC8270 based custom board. u-boot is ported from EP8260 board version. RAM is 128M, flash is 16M. After u-boot relocates code in the ram, sometimes, stack pointer gets corrupted. Hello, This patch fixes a few bugs which made udelay() not work properly on 925 based systems. A while back when I increased my boards clock speed I ran into quite a few problems which resulted in these fixes. I think the Innovator should be switched over to use a real udelay code instead of its busy spins. They do not scale at all with clock speed, and do not keep the useful timestamp properly updating. Hi there, does someone know how big the stack is for an MPC8xx based boards? I had this problem: I started porting U-Boot to my new AT91RM9200 based board. After doing the flash code I tried "saveenv". Simple reading, writing and erasing was working. But the board crashed when doing "saveenv". dear all! sorry ,but i really don't understand. 1.What's the meaning of flash memory banks,is the number of flash chips? ie:if i have 2 chips of 29f040s on my board,then the CFG_MAX_FLASH_BANKS should be 2,right? 2.What's the meaning of FLASH_BASE0_PRELIM and FLASH_BASE1_PRELIM, Is the FLASH_BASE0_PRELIM should be set to the flash_base_addr that defined by cs0? Then what about flash_base1_prelim? 3.What's the difference between br/or_prelim and br/or_remap and their respective function ??Is the br/or_remap must be set or optional depended on my board? Hi there, the file cpu/at91rm9200/config.mk contains an option "-mtune=arm7tdmi". I am new to ARM processors so please bear my stupid question: The Atmel AT91RM9200 is and ARM9 / ATM920T. I have a customized walnut 405 gp board. While using u-boot the bridge was not set correclty. The problem was that the bridge didn't respond to requst. The problem was traced down to PCIC0_CMD[MA]=0 on the bridge. The bit is set correclty in pci_405gp_init, later it is got changed in pci_hose_scan_bus. It is not supposed to be changed, as suggested by the comment below in the code. But this comment contradict with function pci_hose_scan_bus which intentionly doesn't skip the bridge. Removing #ifndef in pci_hose_scan_bus makes the bridge work. My question is: is this a typo? Where can I search for u-boot mailing list archive? linuxppc is very easy to serach useful information. [U-Boot-Users] Where does u-boot start when booting Linux?

I was hoping that someone could give me a quick answer. When u-boot starts Linux, does is start from the beginning for does it jump in somewhere past decompress()? I have been looking at the Linux code and it doesn't appear that the bdinfo structure is being handled correctly for u-boot. There is an CONFIG_EMBEDDEDBOOT option but even this only passes the boot parameter in a few instances. Does u-boot fix this somehow? Another thing is embed_config() for the ADS8260 board, forces the baud-rate to 9600 but 2_4_devel is quite happy at 115200 as in u-boot. This is interesting since I am trying to fix a serial baud-rate problem. TIA!

Hello All, I have a MPC852T based board. I have configured SCC4 ETHERNET register and I have a PHY ( Broadcom 5222 ) chip as a PHY support. I am able to do a SCC loopback, but the data is not going out from the PHY when I diable the loopback. How do I access the PHY from SCC "scc.c" driver ?? do I have to do this anyway ? The PHY is getting accessed from "MII" i.e I am able to do "mii read/write" The Dual BCM Phy registers are located at 0x10 and 0x11 offset. of PHY. Hello, I'm playing around with a day-old cvs snapshot of U-Boot, using it with "make at91rm9200dk_config". My problem is the same with 0.4.0. >From the source (and from the usage help) I understand that at least the memory commands like "md" should accept (optional) data size parameter (.b/.w/.l) as the first parameter. How do you enable this? In my environment they don't work: 1) argv[0] is the command itself (like "md"), not the data size parameter from where the source tries to read it and 2) if I give the data size parameter, the upper framework counts the amount of parameters to be illegal and therefore certain commands give me an error message (the short usage). I suppose there is a #define missing? What is it? I could not quickly find it grepping the source, googling the net / mailing list archives. Best Regards, Pasi Huhtiniemi

Hi there, the patch attached adds support for ALTERA FPGAs. For now only the ACEX1K using the so called "passive serial" Interface. The code and idea is heavily stolen from the xilinx stuff. And just like there the board specific code has to provide some functions for handling the FPGA signals CONF_DONE, DATA, DCLK, nCONFIG, nSTATUS. Hi all, Have had my MPC8260ADS based system up and running for a while now but I have recently noticed a problem when I warm boot. When it comes to detecting the DOC chip I just get a series of 10 "Doc_WaitReady timeout" messages. This takes about a couple of minutes and then it carries on with the boot as normal. Any ideas of what is happening? This does not happen in a power on reset. hello ! all I'm porting u-boot-0.4.0 to my WindRiver MDP PRO board now,some addressing specifications are listed below.I choose the fads823 as the model.I have vision ICE ii & vision CLICK to program flash and debug the code. I compile the code in the vmware linux environment.After "make myboard_config" and "make",I copy the u-boot(ELF) to the vision CLICK path in windows environment，then Convert to .BIN file, program to flash,run,use the hyperterminal as the console. Now in the cpu_init.c ,I masked all the OR/BR initialization clause,for when I released them there's nothing displayed on the hyperterminal ;but when masked them ,the program can run to the "=>"(after main_loop();)with the vision ICE II and to the relocate_code()(in the board_init_f();)without the visionICE II ,some register value are listed below in the vision CLICK BKM mode. **1.why I cann't initialize the OR/BR registers in the cpu_init.c **2.how to modify the dram initialization to pass the relocate_code() 3.can you tell me something details about the BCSR register in the FADS823 model. 4.are there any better model for WindRiver MDPRRO board ? Hello All, I am porting linux-2.4.22 to MPC852T based board. I have an issue with the Ramdisk. I have a total of 64MB SDRAM, and I am creating a ramdisk of 32MB. The compressed Ramdisk file is of 3.4MB size. Look like when I do the "bootm" command the Ramdisk is corrupting some important u-boot data. I have the console dump below. Is there a minimal Ramdisk that I can directly use ?? Reading of ATA drive id is broken in cmd_ide.c for big endian cpu:s that are not ppc. AFAIK, cmd_ide.c is broken for non ppc boards. The read/write functions does not add ATA base address, which causes failure. This patch solves that.
